Message from Surrey Police

There have been a number of Burglaries recently in the Spelthorne area and predominantly entry has been gained through doors and windows at the rear of houses often where keys have been left in locks. Please consider the following to make burgling your house less attractive and much harder:

Treat the side gate to your property as you would your front door as once they are at the back of your house, they are 'out of sight out of mind'. Do not leave bins in front of gates or fences as they become stepping stones. If you have a side or rear fence or wall that adjoins a footpath/road, then consider adding height and defensive planting. Don't leave keys in windows and doors as this assists the burglar to gain entry to your property. Finally if you see or hear anything that is unusual then please do not hesitate to report it at the time. Surrey Police would rather attend a report where all is in order than a burglary. House to house enquires often reveal that the burglar was possibly seen or an out of place noise such as breaking glass was heard but it wasn’t reported as they didn't want to bother us. Please bother us!!!

For further security advice, please ring 101 and ask to speak to one of the Northern Crime Reduction Advisors either Elaine Burtenshaw or Vic Smith.

Thamesmead Plus Programme is attached with full information.

Vocalistix club started back this week and they are busy rehearsing for Spelthorne Music Festival.

Year 9 Photos

Year 9 photos will be taken on Wednesday 11 th March and not 5 th March as previously communicated.

Books of the Week

KS3 - Winter Horses by Philip Kerr

Kalinka is the sole survivor after her family are massacred. Trying to survive the winter in the vast Ukranian steppe, she encounters the Przewalski’s horses (remarkable horses, who are renowned for both their wildness and their cunning) and an incredible bond is formed. They are all being pursued to extinction by the Nazis. So far she has just been surviving but now she has a reason to live. Can she save these precious horses?

The fast-paced action will keep you turning the page and is a good read for anyone interested in horses or history.

KS4 - Land by Alex Campbell – The sea rose .

Civilisation was wiped out, countries drowned. Out of the ashes of a desperate refugee camp, a new society was born. Decades after, 17-year- old Christy’s life is on the cusp of irrevocable change. Her only hope of protection lies with her rebel father… but nothing goes as it is supposed to. Christy is forced to face a whole new world, one where she must choose between those she cares about and the greater good.
