PREFACE AND ACKNOWLEDGMENTS P RAYI NG TO T H E D I SC I PL I NAR Y G ODS W I T H O NE E Y E O PEN This volume is the culmination of more than a decade of shared inquiry involving dozens of scholars investigating the origins, evolution, and conse- quences of racial colorblindness as a metaphor for social relations across the academic disciplines. Its genealogy, however, reaches beyond the academy both to the Civil Rights Movement, which briefly shook the foundations of American social life, and to the demobilizing campaigns within the legal and political arena to restabilize the American social order in its aftermath. Anchoring the slowed pace of race reform in the 1980s, and the dismantling of the civil rights infrastructure throughout the 1990s, colorblind rhetoric crossed over into popular culture to provide ideological cover for ballot ini- tiatives and other efforts to neutralize affirmative action and other antisub- ordination measures. Despite its solidly conservative deployment in the post–civil rights era, colorblindness received an unexpected rebranding in 2008 as the ideological standard-bearer for the country’s postracial future. This was a remarkable ride for a concept that defied definition, measurement, or theorization. Indeed, the work that colorblindness does across so many sectors and issues is stunning given the utter lack of consensus as to what it really is. Unanswered

He is also the author of the nonfiction bestseller Eyes on the Prize: America's Civil Rights Years, 1954-1965, the companion volume to the critically acclaimed television series. This Far by Faith: Stories from the African American Religious Experience appeared in February 2003. This book was the basis for a six-part public broadcasting TV documentary that aired in June 2003.

Scripture tells us that praying for our Gleaders is one of the best ways we can do this. “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2 NKJV). It is better to pray for governmental leaders — local, state, and national — than to criticize them. This doesn’t mean we always agree with their every action or condone legislative decisions contrary to biblical principles.

Suspect Until Proven Guilty, a Problematization of State Dossier Systems via Two Case Studies: The United States and China Abstract This dissertation problematizes the "state dossier system" (SDS): the production and accumulation of personal information on citizen subjects exceeding the reasonable bounds of risk management. SDS - comprising interconnecting subsystems of records and identification - damage individual autonomy and self-determination, impacting not only human rights, but also the viability of the social system. The research, a hybrid of case-study and cross-national comparison, was guided in part by a theoretical model of four primary SDS driving forces: technology, political economy, law and public sentiment. Data sources included government documents, academic texts, investigative journalism, NGO reports and industry white papers. The primary analytical instrument was the juxtaposition of two individual cases: the U.S.

Brian Balogh: Today on the show we're bringing you a compilation of past segments in celebration of March as women's history month. With over a hundred women serving in Congress and already a record number of women announcing their 2020 presidential candidacy this year marks the strongest female presence in American political history. But for most of American history, of course, the US government was almost exclusively male. That is until Margaret Chase Smith, a Republican senator from Maine, ran for President in 1964 and made it all the way to the party's convention. A few years back the podcast radio diaries ran this piece about her campaign, the farthest any woman had gotten in major party politics up to that point.
