Jake Timm President Wisconsin Community Media Announces the Best of the Midwest Media Fest Oshkosh Media Winners and Honorees
Andy Radig Wisconsin Community Media (WCM) is announcing the winners of the 2020 Best of the Midwest Vice-President Media Fest, which honors community television and low-power FM radio programs in a nine-state Wisconsin Rapids Community Media/Oshkosh Media area. At the same time, WCM is announcing the recipients of its annual awards. Jim Walsh, former director of River Cities Community Access of Wisconsin Rapids, is the 2020 inductee into the Jeff Robbins WCM Hall of Fame and Wendy Baumann, Richard Baumann (deceased) and Plymouth Secretary Community Television are sharing the 2020 Friend of Access Award. The awards will be presented Sun Prairie Media Center during the Best of the Midwest Media Fest Banquet and Show in Milwaukee on Thursday evening October 1. The celebration is open to the public. Deb Brunett Treasurer Jim Walsh is being honored for his seventeen years of service to the Wisconsin Rapids community Emeritus Member – as the first full-time director of the city’s public, education, and government (PEG) access Merrill Productions television channel, now known as Wisconsin Rapids Community Media. Jim began his career in
1993 and was elected to the WCM Board of Directors for a term beginning in 2003, serving one Directors year as president. Walsh will be the thirteenth community media professional to be inducted into Dave Grooman the WCM Hall of Fame. Lake Mills Community & Government Television Wendy and Richard Baumann and Plymouth Community Television have, for the last six years, donated the digital program sharing application WCM’s fifty PEG access media centers use to Boyce Johnson share video and radio programming with each other. Their generosity has supported the Madison City Channel distribution of candidate forums, lectures, meetings, sports and entertainment programs state-wide.
John Kelly Trempealeau County The annual Best of the Midwest Media Fest honors top-scoring videos and LPFM radio programs Community Television created for play on public, education, and government (PEG) access channels, PEG websites, and LPFM radio stations in a nine-state area. Entries came from 24 Wisconsin-based centers and Tom Loppnow fourteen from out-of-state. This year, 41 programs scored high enough to earn an Excellence City of Milwaukee Award, 52 programs earned an Achievement Award, and 55 programs were recognized with a Merit Award. Also this year East Side Community Media of East Peoria, Illinois, is awarding a Tom Loucks Significant Community Program Award to “2019 Candidate Forums: Race for City of East Peoria Marshfield Media Access Commissioner.” The fest also honors the “best” amateur and professional programs in the
categories: Public Access Program, Government Access Program, Educational Access Program, Alan Luckett Cultural/Ethnic Program, Program from a Small Station, Program Produced by a College Student, Janesville JATV Program Produced by Youth, and LPFM Radio Program.
