Duties included performing all quality control tests on all roads and structures under construction for the City Engineer’s Department. Prospecting for road construction materials for all layers and subsequent testing. Sample and perform concrete and asphalt tests. Interpretation of results and supplying the necessary advice to the various contract supervisors. Daily management and co- ordination of all jobs and laboratory staff. Acted in this capacity on the Ogongo-Okalongo Water Supply Scheme. As an Extension Officer, duties included liaising between the Councillors, Community Leaders, the Contractor and the community at large on issues such as determining the positions of water points, setting out the branch lines, negotiating the route of the branch lines, organizing the locals on the digging of trenches. Establishments of the Water Point Committee give them basic training and give to water point caretakers on operation and maintenance.
