Track and Field complex and across from the Stile Athletics Field House. The

Zips’ first game at the new field resulted in a 5-0 victory over AKRON SOFTBALL Robert Morris on April 12, 2006. In addition to the playing field, the facility includes 40-foot dugouts with brick veneer trim, double bullpens beyond each dugout, double batting cages and hitting drill area by the home team dugout, and an eight-foot outfield chain link fence identical to the one that currently surrounds the Lee Jackson practice field. There is also elevated bleacher seating for 300 with ADA access, a press box and an inning-by-inning scoreboard in right field. The dimensions of the field are 195 feet down the foul lines, 205-foot gaps and 220 feet to center field. The new facility replaced Buchtel Field, which had been the home of the softball team since the program's inception. In 2005, Akron played a majority of its games at Firestone Stadium.

This gives the University of Akron softball team the opportunity to conduct off-season workouts in a state-of-the-art building.

The field house features:

• Batting cages

• A 120-yard football field with an AstroPlay surface

• An 8,000-square-foot weight training facility which includes both strength training and rehabilitation equipment

• A 300-meter six-lane track featuring a Mondo surface

• A 3,500 square-foot sports medicine area featuring taping, treatment and rehabilitation stations
