M RFREESBORO, TN- The WHOA ThorSport Spring Fling took place on Saturday, May 29th
at the beautiful ThorSport Farm in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Due to the rain and cold front,
numbers were smaller than usual with a total of 65 entries recorded. There were 2 classes and
Carla Hurley served as judge.
Horses and riders from numerous training facilities entered the show ring throughout the
day. Dickie Gardner Stables brought the most entries with 1 head.
WHOA has two more events scheduled for the month of June. The WHOA Cookeville
Summer Classic will be held on June 19th and the WHOA Pleasure Jamboree will be held on

Mike Edwin Janeway was born on August in Maryville TN He was the son of Oscar Wiley Janeway and Mildred Montgomery Janeway Mike s involvement with horses began when he was an infant because his grandfather James Calvin Montgomery always had horses Mike began showing horses when he was at the Knoxville Fairgrounds Horse Show He began his professional career working at Stock Creek Stables in Knoxville working with Tennessee Walking Horses Then he worked for Mullins Stables in New Market He then opened his own stable in Knoxville in OBITUARY Mike moved to Murfreesboro in with his own stables He liked this better SUSANNAH BORG because he was right in the middle of the Walking Horse Capitol of the World His son Alex was born in Murfressboro In Mike was selected by the U S Dept of Agriculture to take Tennessee Walking Horses to China to be used by the people of Inner Mongolia for breeding purposes Mike met Ella Kline in when Mike was shoeing horses for a friend Ella had a stables in Robbins TN where she and her dad C L Kline had operated the Kline Farms for years On December Mike and Ella married and began operating Kline Farms together They loved everything about the Walking Horse business They put in long hours whether at the actual stables traveling to and from shows and showing horses Mike worked tirelessly with many young people in the local area to help them see the value of hard work setting and achieving goals These young people have self confidence, because of many of these experiences in riding and showing horses Some of Mike s proudest accomplishments were when Cash s Fatal Attraction won World s Championship in at TWHNC he won futurity at National Monticello Florida resident Nancy Susannah Schmoe Borg passed away June Walking Horse Celebration with Name This Tune in and won the Walking in Gainesville Florida She was years old Susannah was born on September Horse National Celebration with Bruce Pearl in in Adel Georgia to the late Nancy Young Schmoe and Charles Woodward Mike was predeceased by his parents Oscar and Mildred Janeway Schmoe She grew up at Blackwater Plantation in uitman Georgia raising cattle He is survived by his wife Ella Kline his son Alex Philip (Lynn) Janeway his and showing horses She graduated from The Bartram School in Jacksonville and brother Stanley (Brenda) Janeway sisters Helen Janeway (Tom) Stanley and The George Washington University in Washington D C She also studied at Oxford Mary Janeway (Gregg) Hawkins nephews a great niece great nephews University in England where she met her Danish late husband Stefan Borg while and many other relatives and friends cruising the Greek Isles They married in June of and lived in Denmark France Visitation with friends was on Sunday June from p m until time and Germany while they explored the world together The coupled moved around the of funeral service at p m at the Barton Chapel Congregational Church in United States to Washington D C San Francisco California and Houston Texas obbins, T , with Bro. CH CKE , TN- The East Tennessee Classic was held on Saturday, June 5th at the South Central Horse Show Grounds in the pictures ue town of Chuckey. Wayne Conley and Robert Kellett served as judges for the Walk- ing and Racking Horses.
Numerous classes seemed to be large and competitive throughout the night, and the divisions showcased some very talented horses from each industry. Four Racking Horses answered the gate call to the Racking Specialty Action Stake. Riding out with top honors was Pusher’s Bay Hawk with owner Greg Kiser in the irons.
The Walking Horse Championship welcomed seven horses vying for the blue. Keith Becknell and Brutally Handsome SCB made the victory lap for owner Franklin Harvey. Reserve honors went to Cash Agenda and Brent Coburn for owner Al Morgan. The Blacklister and Brandon Givens rounded out the top three awards for owner Dwight Brooks. Dan Waddell and Mayor Bill claimed the roses in the Walking Horse Championship for owners George and Kim Lewis.
CROSSV LLE, TN- The Cumberland County outh Horseman’s Club presented their 1 th Annual Cumberland County Open Walking Horse Show on Saturday, June 12th. The host venue was the Cumberland County Community Complex. The Honorable Amy Trimble served as judge.
As heavy rains caused a show delay, organizers were commended for being prepared for such weather. The rain turned the arena into unfavorable conditions for a horse show to be held. However, with some heavy e uipment and some hard workers, the flooded track was prepared for the show to go on.
The uality of horses at this year’s Cumberland County Horse Show was incredible. Classes showcased some of the industry’s finest Walking Horses who will be vying for world championship honors later this summer.
As the show concluded, spectators were treated to four great horses and trainers riding for the roses. Mayor Bill and Dan Waddell claimed top honors for George and Kim Lewis. Leavenworth and Joseph King received the reserve prize for own- er Donald Robinson. LEWISBURG TN- The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders & Exhibitors Association held their mid- year meeting on Saturday May th Several speakers took part of the assembly Joyce Moyer gave the fi nancial report and emphasized some positive increases. As of May the current membership was which is an increase of from this time last year memberships have been sold since December This is an increase of from the same time of the previous year Another positive increase was the number of registrations As of December there have been registrations more than December With these mentioned increases and the PPP loan from the federal government (which has now been forgiven), the fi nances of TWHBEA are improving and becoming more stable Executive Director Margo Urad explained that the positive changes are a result of TWHBEA waiving late fees With this waiver transfers increased as well as registering older horses President Jack Heffi ngton emphasized the need to expand outside of Middle Tennessee. He was happy to highlight two new horse shows that will be hosted by TWHBEA One took place in Little Rock Arkansas on June th and another will take place in Bowling Green Kentucky on October th These two new shows are in addition to the ones already scheduled for this show year. The TWHBEA Summer Sizzler will be held on July nd in Calsonic Arena The TWHBEA World Versatility will also take place on this date but will be held at the Middle Tennessee State University Livestock Arena The TWHBEA youth will hold their annual Tennessee Walking Horse Youth Association Horse Show on August th in Belfast Kristen Reichard shared about a fi rst for the organization. BELFAST,i TN- The Pleasure e Walking Horse s Association of Tennessee (PWHAT) held their third show of their Summer Show Series on Saturday, June 5th at the historic S.W. Beech Arena. Show management was pleased to announce 192 entries. The Honorable Richard Wall served as judge.
Throughout the day, classes were full of very competitive horses. The largest class of the day was the All Day Pleasure class with 9 entries. Taking top honors in the large division was Jazzy Black Hawk with Keely McGee in the irons. Jose’s One Liner and D.A. McGovern received the reserve award.
Maggie Moore was the big winner of the day, riding to the winners’ circle six times. Victoria Kalosis was the professional trainer who received the most blue ribbons with three, and Finley New received four wins, making her the youth rider with the most wins.
There are three PWHAT shows remaining for the 2021 calendar. They are as follows:

Laura Madere is a Walking Horse owner and exhibitor, and she loves this chapter of her life!
She is a native of Cincinnati, O hio, but at the age of fourteen, her family moved to Tucson, Ariz ona. Tucson just happens to be where she met her husband of 37 years, Shawn. The couple lived there until 1997 . The next move took the Madere Family to Paris, Kentucky where they fi nished raising their daughters aven and Sirena, and where they still reside.

Horses have played a major role in Laura’s life since she was a young girl, and have continued throughout the years. aura s fi rst horse goes back to the age of ten. She got an Appaloosa from her cousin. When her family made the move to Tucson, her family bred Q uarter Horse racing stock. It was there she won her fi rst stake race, which happened to be on a horse her family bred and raised. She eventually switched to Thoroughbreds. Interestingly enough, in J anuary of 1997, she sold two Thoroughbred weanlings at the famous Keeneland sale and made enough money to purchase their 11 acre farm in Paris, Kentucky. wit h Laura Madere In 2 0 0 9, Laura met J ennifer Hankins. She fondly recalls watching J ennifer and her husband, J amie, ride their Tennessee Walking Horses. Laura was completely mesmeriz ed by their beauty and their smooth gait. Laura continued visiting the Hankins and watching them ride. It didn’t take long before Laura was hooked Laura at the KW H A H igh P oint on Walking Horses. B anque t in 2020. J amie, J ennifer and Claire Hankins continued being a strong force in Laura Madere’s new found passion with Tennessee Walking Horses and she is so grateful for their friendships. She credits the family, along with the Hankins’ other customers, as her biggest infl uences in the ring, and credits J ennifer for teaching her how to ride and present one, competitively. Laura was instructed by J ennifer for two years before showing. Her fi rst horseshow was in June of 2016 in Georgetown, Kentucky. She showed GG’s Halberd in the Flat Shod Canter class and took home the blue. When 2020 rolled in, Laura was ready to purchase her Laura’s mentors and great f riends Jamie, Jennif er and C laire H ankins. own Walking Horse. O ne day when she was scrolling through social media, she saw a video ad of Devil’s Cut. She contacted her trainer, Claire Hankins, and soon the search was over. She loved Devil’s Cut motor, discipline and his impeccable looks. At 57 years old, Laura became a Walking Horse owner. This eq uestrian looks forward to every show, but because of her competitive spirit, she has to remind herself, often, to relax and have fun. If she is having fun, then she knows her horse is having fun. As a newcomer to the Walking Horse breed, Laura looks for- ward to her fi rst championship win. She has fallen in love with the entire industry and the hospitable people. She compares the shows with the Kentucky Derby. The level of excitement is very contagious. She also loves how the industry gives back in so many charitable ways. The Madere Family stays busywit outside of theh show ring,Laura as well. They love to travelMadere and spend time with family and friends. In 1999, Laura and her husband, Shawn, started their own business to help horses, dogs and people. The business is GLCDirect, LLC in Lexington, Kentucky. Shawn has patented joint support products and a probiotic blend for horses, dogs and livestock. This is, indeed, a family business because the Madere’s two daughters work there, which allows them to see their granddaughter often. The Scoop would like to welcome Laura and her family to the Walking Horse circle. An industry’s greatest asset is new members. When there is growth, there is a future and we wish a great future to Laura Madere and Devil’s Cut.
