14 Shepherd University Magazine Women’s basketball: Only 3 players return Third-year head coach Jodie Runner is cautious in her expectations for her team in the upcoming season. The Rams posted an impressive 18-11 mark with a 12-6 mark in conference last season, but return only three players who saw significant playing time last season. Runner does feel she has a young, talented squad that will finish in the top half of the conference despite being relatively inexperienced. GUARDS A pair of freshmen Rebecca Frece (Springfield, VA/Annandale HS) and Tiffany Acker (Mount Solon, VA/Buffalo Gap HS) will battle for the starting spot at point guard. Frece is a player with great court sense and an abundance of natural ability. Acker is a hardworking, excellent defensive player with deceptive skills. Seniors Carrie Kunkel (Gettysburg, PA/ Gettysburg HS) and Anna Lashway (Guilford, VT/ Brattleboro Union HS) are veteran returnees at the off guard spot. Kunkel averaged 5.5 points and 3.1 rebounds for the Rams last season. She topped the Ram regulars in three-point percentage (.428, 20-49) and her 20 treys were third most on the team. Lashway averaged 11.0 points and 4.4 rebounds in limited action last year. She also connected on 5-of-8 shots from three-point range. Kunkel is the most experienced player and has improved her all-around game

considerably. She will be counted on to lead this young squad. Lashway is a great Beth Mickelinc inside-outside threat and her size (6-0) should cause matchup problems for opponents.
