WELCOME TO PLYMOUTH DERRY’S We have a Travel Plan for the student halls of residence here at Plymouth Derry’s to assist students and staff in finding ways to travel other than just the private car. For that reason we are providing the information below to help you reduce your carbon footprint. On foot Our halls are next to the Derry’s Cross roundabout, near the Theatre Royal, The Gym and Grosvenor Casino as well as various bars and restaurants. New George Street, located at the rear of the building, is pedestrianised and runs through the city centre to an extensive range of shops and restaurants, including Drake Circus shopping centre which is only an 8 minute walk away, and to the University (12 minutes). By cycle Over short distances, cycling is often quicker and cheaper than using a car and more flexible than using public transport. There are several cycle routes that are near to these halls, providing links to key destinations. For your convenience there are also 132 cycle racks here for use by students. Bus Royal Parade is served by 40 bus routes which provide links through the city. Great Western https://www.gwr.com/ provide direct trains to Truro, Penzance, Exeter, Taunton, Bristol, Bath, Swindon, Newbury, Reading and London Paddington. Cross Country https://www.crosscountrytrains.co.uk/ provide direct trains to Truro, Penzance, Exeter, Taunton, Bristol, Cheltenham, Birmingham, Derby, Sheffield, Leeds, York, Newcastle and Scotland. Ferries and Water Taxis Explore the city by water on board the Plymouth's Waterlinks with ferries and water taxis all year round, these connect the Barbican Wharves Hub with Mount Batten and the Royal William Yard, as well as Mount Edgcumbe and Cawsands in Cornwall. Taxis Ridge Cab (01752 477477), Taxi First (01752 222222) and Excel Cabs (01752 666699) all serve the local area but need to be pre-booked in advance.
