INTRODUCTION This Design and Access Statement is in support of the planning application made to Council for internal alterations, new entrance porch and creation of first floor to Ellengowan along with a new detached garage, Off Rectory Hill in West Dean.

SITE LOCATION West Dean is a village, in Wiltshire (historically in Hampshire), situated on the Wiltshire/Hampshire border. The village is on the River Dun about 7 miles (11 km) east of Salisbury. The village is clustered around the railway line which runs from west-east across the south of the parish. The site is located within the West Dean Conservation Area and falls under the Boundary.

SITE DESCRIPTION Ellengowan is located off Rectory Hill, The site is square is shape with the existing bungalow sitting slightly towards the boundary with Boundary Cottage to the left. A detached prefabricated garage is to the right of the bungalow. The access track which serves Ellengowan along with several other dwellings is also a public footpath.

Ellengowan is a single storey bungalow built in 1975 with a later extension set approx 1/3 of an acre, the bungalow has little architectural merit and our proposals seek to improve the visual impact on the Conservation Area. Boundary Cottage to the left is a newer chalet style bungalow as is Chantry House diagonally opposite.

PLANNING HISTORY Planning permission was granted for an extension reference S/1995/0106 and for tree works S/2003/1473. 2.0 Site Context 2.1 Site Photos
