About the Festival

Through a successful 10th edition, the Rocamadour Festival has attracted a large audience and won its bet: offering to this exceptional place a large- scale cultural special-event. Charmed by this picturesque site, Emmeran Rollin, Laetitia Corcelle and Enguerrande De Hys have been bringing their originality and expertise since 2014. They developed an audacious programme, innovative and unique, which has enable the Festival to become the must-seen event in the area. From the 5th to the 26th of August 2016, the festival of Rocamadour will be offering within the unique acoustic of the Basilica of Rocamadour, an ambitious and surprising programme throughout the course of 10 major nights. In exclusivity, the festival will offer timeless sacred music masterpieces such as the Rossinni little mass in opening, the Mozart’s Requiem or the Vivaldi’s Gloria directed by Herve Niquet. As part of our Talent Discovery Program, the festival allows young artists to create and offer their own musical ensemble, giving them the chance to become professionals. Ensemble like “la Pellegrina”, specialised in German baroque music, will play its first concert during the Festival, another ensemble like “Exosphere” (created in 2015 at the festival) will have the chance to perform again this year. In addition, Christopher Gibert, resident of the Festival, has been ordered a new piece of work in homage to Francis Poulenc. Very talented, young or experienced artists, famous pieces of work or unique novelties will be presented in the course of four great themes which will give this 11th edition its tempo: the 1st theme will highlight the link unifying Rocamadour to Francis Poulenc, the 2nd will bring people to a “Promenade Baroque” giving a large place to music from the XVII and XVIII centuries. Furthermore, another theme around the piano and the cello, will propose more exclusive and private evenings, the “Great Soloist nights”. The last theme will interlace the charm of the music of Hildegarde von Bingen with the most beautiful cities in the area and their heritage.
