Event Details:

Hakaluki , About 25 thousand hectares of Aus paddy land including 3500 hectares of seedbeds in villages adjacent to Hakaluki Haor in Kulaura, Juri and Baralekha upazilas of has gone under water as heavy downpour inundated fresh areas during the last couple of days. The flooding has compelled authorities to close 30 primary and high schools and a college around the water body in Juri, Kulaura and Baralekha upazilas of the Moulvibazar district. Worst affected aus lands are situated in the haor bank villages of Singnath, Guptagram, Bisrakandi, Leurhai, Mirshankar, Dilderpur, Habera, Chhaykapon, Sonatola, Moturganj,Tirkhali, Bade Bhukshimul, Kaleshar, Nabiganj and Silarkandi. Farmers are worried about the fate of their crops as a large portion of the croplands near the haor has remained under water for the last two weeks. Farmers in the same areas had also lost much of their boro crops in the just ended boro season due to stagnation of water from Hakaluki haor.

Water stagnation problem has appeared after construction of an embankment on the haor bank as it blocks the way of drainage of water to the . Farmers of six upazilas in Moulvibazar and districts are suffering due to the water logging problem caused by the situtaion The crops on inundated lands in Kulaura, Juri and Baralekha upazilas will be saved if water recedes within five days. However, the present weather condition, marked by heavy downpour, shows no sign of receding of water level within a few days.

Flood in Lalmonirhat District Flash flood has left at least 20 thousand people marooned in the Lalmonirhat district. The flood hit the Teesta and Dharla river basins and low-lying 20 villages in four upazilas. Heavy rain in the last three days and water rushing from the hills across the border caused the flash flood. The most affected areas are: Goddimari, Dowani, Sindurna, Dawabari, Paruliya under Hatibandha upazila, Votmari, Char Kakina, Rudreshewar and Jamirbari villages of Kaliganj upazila, Kadomtola, Balapara, Gobordhan villages of Aditmari upazila, Kurul, Mogholhat, Kulaghat, Boalmari, Rajpur, Kalmati, Khuniya Gachh, Gokunda, Milon Bazar villages of Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila. It has been raining heavily for last three days. Water from Teesta river started to enter houses from early 05 June, 2010, Saturday due to onrush of water from the upstream. Flood has submerged all 100 home steads in these villages. Many of the villagers took shelter on highlands including roads and WDB dam as the villages under knee-deep water. Teesta and Dharla marked further rise 05 June, 2010, Saturday although both the rivers were still flowing under the danger level. If the trend continues, water of both the rivers would cross the danger mark by 24 hours.
