LOCATION

The twin villages of Kingsand and Cawsand were, until 1844, in different counties. Both are renowned for their notorious history as centres of smuggling in the 17th and 18th centuries. Many thousands of casks of spirits are reputed to have been landed here by a large fleet of smuggling vessels operating out of Cawsand Bay. Fishing was also an important industry, and pilchard cellars believed to date from the late 16th Century are still to be seen here.

Today, Kingsand is the archetypal Cornish fishing village, with its narrow meandering streets, beaches, coast path and gorgeous views. The Rame Peninsula is often described as Cornwall’s Forgotten Corner, and it is true that Kingsand and its surroundings feel both unexplored and unspoilt. Here, the Cornish coastline is particularly fine, with secluded beaches and dramatic views from the long distance . Rame Head with its prominent chapel is a striking local landmark, with views as far as and beyond on clear days. 5 Ref: LCAA7378

There is real village life to enjoy here, and the twin villages boast many local facilities, including four public houses, a sailing club, the Rame Gig Club, a post office, a bakery and a general stores, as well as many local events and activities. A passenger ferry runs a regular service between Cawsand beach and the Barbican in between March and November, and the ferry (approx. 3 miles) connects Cremyll with Stonehouse in Plymouth. The car ferry at Torpoint (approx. 7 miles) provides a 24/7 service to Plymouth. Paddington to mainline trains stop at St Germans (approx. 10 miles away), with the A38 at a similar distance.
