Jordan Meets the Eagle Bird

I went to Blakemere. I visited the bird sanctuary and I held an Eagle Owl. The owl was very heavy, he had big orange eyes. I felt nervous when he was given to me, but I was so happy. The owl was friendly, he sat calmly on my arm. I was very proud of myself. Common Facts: Name - European Eagle owl Scientific name - Bubo-Bubo Eagle owls can live for 20 years in the wild and up to 40 years in captivity. They come from Europe live in wooded habitats, they are com- monly found in areas with rocky cliffs but also live in open areas with trees and rocks. They can weigh over 4kg. They are fast and powerful in flight. They are not picky eaters and eat small mammals like voles, rats, rabbits but also hunt herons and other birds. They will also prey on reptiles and fish. My Trip to the Sewers

We visited the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. We walked down some steep stairs to get to the sewers. There was 4 tun- nels that we walked around and explored. It was a small place and didn’t smell very good.

There are two giant sewers, these were built in 1889 and 1911. These moved sewage away from the rivers to be treated at the Davyhulme Sewage Works. By Dominic Gilligan

My Target

I go to Rainbow Café independently. I look forward to going because I like to get my own dinner. I make sure I have enough money to order the food I want. I look at the menu to choose. I like to order a BLT and a coke. I go back to college to eat my dinner.

I am very sensible when I walk to the cafe and I always look both ways when I cross the road. I never talk to strangers and I am very polite to the people I know. I am proud of myself for working towards this achievement. By Jordan Judge

Sally’s Trip to the Shires Sally meets one of the world’s biggest horses! I went to Cotebrook to see the Shire Horses, which is the big- gest horse in the world. I also saw some baby piglets that had just been born. Shire Horses are the strongest land animals in the world be- sides elephants! During the time of King Henry, Shire Horses were used in bat- tle to carry knights in armour. In Victorian times, Shire Horses pulled heavy carts and grey. Their legs can have white ploughed fields. socks with long hairs called ‘feathers’. By Sally Mayhew The largest horse in recorded history was probably a Shire named Mammoth, who was born in 1848. He stood 21.2 hands (86inches, 218cm) high, and his weight was estimated at 1,500 kilograms (3,300 lb ). They can be different colours, like black, bay (brown) and

DOLPHINS ARE COOL BY MELISSA JOHNSON

I like dolphins because they are cute and friendly and they are nice too. Dolphins are very clever animals. I like the colour of dolphins, the colour of the dolphins are grey and blue. They live under water, dol- phins jump out of the water to get fresh air and to breathe.

Dolphins all live together. Dolphins have babies, they have one calf and two twins. Dolphins are trained to do sudden movements. They like to eat lots of fish too.

New Metro Line Explored

On January 14th we went on a trip from college to the Metro-line in Manchester. We boarded the Metro-line at the airport and travelled to Sale Water- Park. Sally, Melissa, Jordan and Dom- inic all got off the tram to meet Dan with the bus. We all paid for our tram tickets at the machine so we could travel on the tram. I enjoyed this journey but felt it was a bit bouncy on the tracks.

I give this new tram line 100 stars. On the 3rd November 2014 the Manchester Airport extension was opened.

Pugs

Pugs make me feel warm. They are attentive, charming, clever, docile, playful, quiet, sociable, stubborn in side. I have two pugs.

I have one called Jupiter and one called China. My pugs under- stand me, they can be trained to help me at home and know when I need something. My pugs are great company and are always pleased to see me. Famous people in history who owned pugs were Marie Antoinette and Queen Victoria.

My name is Sally Mayhew. I go to the Birkenhead Trampo- line Club on Sundays at 9 o’clock. I practise on an Olym- pic size trampoline, which is about 16.5 feet long, 9.5 feet wide and nearly 4 feet high.

Sometimes I lift myself up to get on to it, or I use the steps.

I have learnt to do a Pike Backflip, using a rig to keep me safe. A rig is a harness on the ceiling that stops me from falling off the trampoline. It is quite fun to do!

I can do a Straddle Jump and Pike Jump too, but they can hurt my legs!

It is quite easy, and anyone can do it!

Sally Stars in the Hoosiers’

This is me in the Hoosiers’ video. The song is called ‘Somewhere in the Distance’. I’m clearing the hay near my horse’s stable.

They are my favourite band because the music is really good and I like the songs. I don’t have a favourite song because I like all of them! But Mr A especially. I don’t have a favourite album, they are all amazing! They are good live because they use fireworks and it’s really amazing. I’ve seen them about 8 times live and I really enjoy it. I sing along to the songs. I go with my Mum and Dad and they some- times sing too. Sometimes my cousin Lorna comes too.

18

The Hoosiers have had 4 so far, ‘’ in 2007, ‘The Illusion of Safety’ in 2010, ‘Bumpy Ride’ in 2011 and ‘The News from Nowhere’ in 2014. Top 40 songs have been ‘’, ‘’, ‘Worst case scenario’, ‘Cops and Robbers’, ‘Choices’, ’Bumpy Ride’, ‘Somewhere in the Distance ‘and ‘Make or Break’.

The band started in 2007 in Reading. The band includes Irwin Sparkes as lead singer and lead guitar. Martin Skarendarl as bass and rhythm guitar. Sam Swallow as keyboard and backing vocals. Alfonso Shar- land as drums and percussion.

The Hoosiers are called that because Alphonso and Irwin both went to Indianapolis University and a resident of Indiana is called a Hoosier. Experience the heights of the Imperial War Museum

The viewing platform in the Im- perial War Museum stands 100 feet in the air. To go up to the top you either use the lift or the stairs. It costs £1.20 to go up to the top. When I was up there it was a long way down. I enjoyed seeing all the historical artefacts in the Imperial War Museum that gave me the remi- niscences of World War 2 as if I By Jack Shaw was actually there. 19
