Adams State College (2-1, 0-1 RMAC) Terjean Saff old (Senior, Running Back, 5-8, 200, Stockton, Calif./Laney JC/Weston Ranch HS) Saff old accounted for 141 yards against No. 18 CSU-Pueblo Saturday night. It was the second time this season he has recorded at least 100 yards of off ense, while the fi ve catches are a career-high for the senior. Saff old’s fourth quarter touchdown was followed by a suc- cessful 2-point conversion which put ASC within six points of CSU-Pueblo with just under 12 minutes to play. The touchdown was his fourth of the season. Team Notes: Adams State played its fi rst home game of the season on Saturday, as well as its fi rst game at the newly completed Rex Stadium on the ASC campus. The Grizzlies suff ered their fi rst loss of the season as four-game winning streak dating back to last season was ended. The Grizzlies outgained the 18th-ranked ThunderWolves 326-306 (21-15 in fi rst downs), but fi ve ASC turnovers gave the ThunderWolves the advantage. Senior Terjean Saff old led the Grizzlies off ense, running 22 times for 97 yards gained while also making fi ve catches for 44 yards (141 total yards in the game). The Grizzlies were 4-of-10 on third down in the game and 2-of-3 on fourth.

Colorado Mesa University (1-2, 0-1 RMAC) Michael Brady (Sophomore, Punter/Defensive Back, 5-11, 185, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Highlands Ranch) Brady had 10 punts versus UNK for 441 yards, both career highs. He averaged 44.1 yards per punt he had a long punt of 69 yards. Three of his punts were touchbacks and two landed inside the 20 yard line. Brady fi nished with six total tackles, two solo, one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry. He has 23 punts on the season for 978 yards and seven punts inside the 20-yard line. Defensively he is eighth overall with 17 tackles. Team Notes: CMU fell to #11-ranked Neb.-Kearney 52-10 in opening weekend of RMAC action. The Mavericks had a season high four take-a-ways in the game, recovering two UNK fumbles and two interceptions. CMU registered its most productive passing totals to date with 199 yards. Trent deBraga had a season high most tackles in a game (17). Mike Brady had a season long punt of 69 yards and a season high 10 total punts against the Lopers. Quarterback Michael Mankoff threw for a season high 121 yards off the bench. CMU will travel to New Mexico Highlands next Saturday. Edmiston is third on the team with 25 tackles and has tallied one interception on the season.

Colorado School of Mines (2-1, 0-1 RMAC) Taylor Accardi (Junior, Punter, 6-2, 205, Litt leton, Colo./Dakota Ridge HS) Accardi averaged 48.7 yards per boot on 11 punts in CSM’s 40-34 home loss to NMHU on Sept. 17 in Golden. Three of his punts landed inside the NMHU 20-yard line and seven of them went 50-or-more yards. Accardi’s long punt against NMHU was 64 yards. He is averaging 50.5 yards per punt this season, and eight of his 13 boots have traveled 50-or-more yards. His long punt this season is 84 yards. Accardi, the 2011 RMAC Pre-Season Special Teams Player of the Year, fi nished second in the nation (NCAA Division II) in gross punting average as a sophomore in 2010 (45.4). Team Notes: The Orediggers saw their six-game home winning streak snapped with this week’s loss to NMHU. CSM scored on all four red-zone opportunities against the Cowboys. The CSM defense came away with four turnovers against NMHU and held the Cow- boys to just one third-down conversion in 16 tries this week. Senior Clay Garcia threw for 338 yards while att empting a CSM single- game record 65 passes against NMHU. Garcia is averaging 268.3 yards passing per game. Sophomore Alex Laudenslager scored his fi rst career touchdown on a 15-yard fumble return against the Cowboys. It was CSM’s fi rst fumble recovery for a touchdown in nearly three years. Senior Colin Baker connected on all four extra-point tries, as well as 2-of-3 fi eld goal att empts (long of 35) against the Cowboys. Sophomore Kelly Zimmerman had nine total tackles against NMHU. Junior Jerrod Doucet caught nine passes for 99 yards. Redshirt freshman Eric Shannon (92 yards receiving) and junior David Pawelek (75 yards receiving) both had six receptions against NMHU. The Orediggers will play at Western N.M. on Sept. 24 (12 p.m.).

Colorado State University (2-1, 1-0 MWC) Team Notes: Colorado State lost their fi rst game of the season on Saturday, 28-14 to Colorado. CSU will play at Utah State on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Colorado State University-Pueblo (3-0, 1-0 RMAC) Jesse Lewis (Senior, Running Back, 5-7, 185, Loveland, Colo./Loveland HS) Lewis logged his third career 200-yard game with 208 yards at Adams State Saturday night. He had fi ve runs of 25 yards or more, including a game high 48-yard scamper that set up the game clinching fourth quarter fi eld goal. He also added one catch for 13 yards. Team Notes: CSU-Pueblo’s 20-11 win at Adams State marked their second straight 3-0 start to the season and third straight win over Adams State. The ThunderWolves logged their seventh straight win in an RMAC opener (dating back to 1982). 2011-2012 NFFCC News Notes

Fort Lewis College (1-2, 0-1 RMAC) Phil Odell (Junior, Linebacker, 6-0, 200, Show Low, Ariz./Show Low HS) Nine of Odell’s 12 tackles against Western New Mexico were solo tackles. He sacked WNMU once for a loss of nine yards and tallied three tackles for a loss of 12 yards. Odell also recovered a fumble in the Skyhawks Homecoming loss.

United States Air Force Academy (1-1, 0-1 MWC) Team Notes: Air Force did not play last week. They will play host to Tennessee State this Saturday.

University of Colorado (1-2, 0-0 Pac 12) Rodney Stewart (Senior, Tailback, 5-6, Westerville, Ohio) Stewart carried the ball 19 times for 98 yards and caught seven passes for 93 yards in a 28-14 win over Colorado State. He fi nished the game with 200 all-purpose yards. Stewart moved into fourth place on CU’s all-time rushing yards list, closing the game with 2,967 yards; he passed Charlie Davis (’71-73; 2,958). With 191 yards from scrimmage on Saturday, he moved from fourth into second with 3,642, passing Bobby Purify (2000-04; 3,524) and Rashaan Salaam (1992-94; 3,469). He jumped from seventh into third in career all- purpose yards with 3,651, trailing only Eric Bieniemy (1987-90; 4,320) and Hugh Charles (2004-07; 3,622). He moved from 20th into 18th in total off ense (2,990 yards). On the year, he still has more receiving yards (18-277) than rushing yards (61-223). His nine punt return yards were the fi rst in his career that came other than by rush or reception – his fi rst return came on his 735th touch (671 rushes, 63 receptions). Team Notes: Jon Embree recorded his fi rst win as CU’s head coach, as the third time proved to be the proverbial charm; he joins Dal Ward (1948, 19-6 over Nebraska), Eddie Crowder (1963; 21-7 at Kansas State) and Bill Mallory (1974; 24-21 vs. Wisconsin) to win their fi rst game in their third try since World War II. OC/RB Coach Eric Bieniemy presented Embree with the game ball in the lockerroom postgame. No doubt 28-14 is a very common football score; but the last time CU won a game by this score was on Nov. 6, 1948, over Utah State in Boulder, or some 63 years ago (CU did lose to Texas, 28-14, in Boulder in 2000); in fact, the only other game that ended in that score in this span was a 28-14 setback at Kansas State in 1953. Colorado now leads the series with the Rams by a 61-20-2 count, including by a 7-4 margin in (where the Buff s are now 45-33-3 overall). CU has outscored the Rams 52-17 in the last two games, limiting CSU to 488 total yards (243 today). CU had four sacks against CSU, giving CU at least one in 34 of its last 35 games.

University of Northern Colorado (0-3, 0-1 BSC) Team Notes: Northern Colorado lost their conference opener to Idaho State, 50-20. The Bears will face WEber State on Saturday at 1:35 p.m.

Western State College (0-3, 0-1 RMAC) Jaden Terry (R-Freshman, Inside Linebacker, 6-1, 230, Colorado Springs, Colo./Doherty HS) Terry fi nished with the fourth-best single-game performance in program history with 20 tackles against Chadron State last Saturday. It was the best performance in program history in nearly 14 seasons, and the best performance in the RMAC since 2008. He led a defense that held the Eagles to 18 points below their scoring average. Terry improved to second in the conference in tackles per game, and is now leading the Mountaineers in solo and total tackles this season. Team Notes: Western State fi nished with an advantage in passing yards with a season-high 179 yards against Chadron State last Satur- day. The Mountaineers held the Eagles to 15 points in the best defensive performance in the series since 1999. Germaine Daniels also moved into No. 10 in program career records with 17 rushes against the Eagles. He stands with 364 career att empts, and needs 14 to tie Ran Beckman (1997-98) for ninth in program records. Terry’s tackles performance ranks behind Mountaineer All-RMAC First Team members Pat Stewart (1987-88), T. W. Stites (1997) and Shane Carwin (1996-97). The Mountaineer defense also held Chadron State to 88 passing yards in the best defensive performance the 2007 season opener (90 yards vs. Fort Hays State). Carter Murphey fi nished with 63 receiving yards on Saturday afternoon for the best performance by a Mountaineer this season. Curtis Prock is third in the conference in touchdown receptions this season, and is on pace to tie for fi fth in season records. Seven of Prock’s 13 total receptions this season have been for fi rst downs. Seth Wilson recorded his third game as a Mountaineer with eight or more tackles in his career on Saturday, and he is tied for fi fth in the RMAC in tackles per game this season. Western State’s scoring defense through the fi rst three games of the season is the lowest since 2006. Western State has scored on 80 percent of its trips in the red zone this season. The Mountaineers are one of three teams in Division II this season without an interception. Western State travels for the last scheduled time to defending RMAC co-champion Nebraska-Kearney Saturday in a 12 p.m. MDT contest. 2011 Conference Preseason Polls
