Re: Ceremonious Dedication of Patika Avenue as "Johnny Bower Boulevard"

SUMMARY: Johnny Bower, born November 8, 1924 in Prince Albert, , was signed to the in 1958. Throughout his time with the Maple Leafs, they won 4 Stanley Cups, three of them consecutively in 1962, 1963 and 1964. In the 19641964-1965 season, Bower was one of two goalies awarded the , awarded annually byby thethe NationalNational HockeyHockey League (NHL) "to the goalkeeper adjudged to be the best atat thisthis positionposition asas votedvoted byby thethe general managers of all NHL clubs." Bower was inducted intointo thethe HockeyHockey HallHall ofof FameFame inin 1976,1976, and went on to serve as Assistant Coach for the Maple Leafs from 1976-1978.

During the peak of Bower's career, and most notably throughout his wins and Vezina Trophy award, Bower was a resident of Weston Village, having resided on Patika Avenue from 1958-1972.

A petition of 451 signatures, including an overwhelming majority ofof householdshouseholds onon PatikaPatika Avenue, has been submitted to my office in support of ceremoniously dedicating Patika Avenue in Johnny Bower's honour.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

That Etobicoke York Community Council:

1. Approve the ceremonial dedication of Patika Avenue as "Johnny Bower Boulevard."

2. Request the General Manager of Transportation Services, in consultation with the Ward Councillor, to alter the street signs on Patika Avenue to reflect both the official street name and the name "Johnny Bower Boulevard".
