Darfur

North Darfur – South Darfur

►Background As a result of inter-tribal conflict on 23 December in Negeha, residents fled to Sheria, Karamje, Jakara and Kazan Jadeed. Additionally, on 5 January, partners reported new arrivals in Dar El Salam Camp also originating from Negaha following this conflict. It is reported that displaced people continue to filter in.

►Response Activities by Location LOCATION IDPs ORIGIN PARTNER ACTION / DISTRIBUTIONS North Darfur Dar El Salam Complete 690 HHs SD-ND border MSF-Spain Essential items are being provided and distributed by MSF-Spain. Distributions are ongoing. Further distributions may follow after displaced populations are verified by IOM. Shangil Tobayi Complete 545 HHs SD-ND border MSF-Spain Essential NFIs were provided to 545 households by MSF-Spain. Cooking sets provided by the NFI Common Pipeline; distribution completed. No additional NFI distributions until IOM complete further registration. North Darfur

►Background Fighting in mid-January around Mau has triggered IDP movements.

Additionally, as a result of ongoing fighting in the area, households were displaced from Burm Burm and Kohr-Gubah villages (NE of Karamje).

WEST DARFUR

►Background Conflict around Kutrum and Quila has displaced populations to Nertiti North Camp. Additionally, on 25 January, 151 households were reported to have arrived in Um Dukkhun following conflict in eastern Chad.

Um Dukkhun Verified 151 HHs Chad Triangle Triangle has sufficient stocks on the ground and will be responding accordingly.

Southern Sudan

CENTRAL EQUATORIA ►Background As a result of inter-tribal fighting in late September, populations were displaced from Gemieza and Mangala Payams and moved to Terekeka, Muni, and Nyori. Response in Muni and Nyori is stalled pending assessments. As Sector Lead, UNJLC will continue to monitor, update partners and coordinate NFI assistance as required. Additionally, reports were received recently of IDPs in Terekeka town returning to Gemaiza. ►Response Activities by Location LOCATION IDPs ORIGIN PARTNER ACTION / DISTRIBUTIONS Central Equatoria Muni / Nyori Unverified TBC Gemieza, IOM, Medair, Registration of IDPs is pending. Mangala Samaritan’s Purse Gemieza Unverified TBC Gemieza, ’IRW Assessment mission to Gemaiza was Mangala inconclusive as populations were inaccessible – either situated on islands or due to security constraints. IRW will return to Gemaiza town to do a house-to-house assessment; OCHA EP&R to determine if a follow-up assessment is required to the islands.

JONGLEI ►Background On 19 September, inter-tribal conflict in Duk Padiet caused displacements and 260 households were verified. On 31 December, in Atar, possible displacements were reported due to inter-tribal conflict.

Additionally, clashes mid-January in Kolanyang (border area between Canal and counties) is reported to have large-scale displacement to Phom el Zeraf in Fangak County.

LAKES ►Background Inter-tribal fighting was reported on 16 November in Kalthok Village, Puluk Payam, Awerial County; an inter-agency rapid assessment will be planned when the security situation improves. Populations were scattered, including to Pariak, Jonglei (see Jonglei for further details). Additionally, conflict was reported in Akot, Rumbek East County, in early January.

Akot, Rumbek East County Unverified 701 HHs to date Akot UNICEF, Oxfam- Oxfam-GB distributed NFI to 701 HH (from TBC GB, SSRRC Oxfam’s NFI stocks). UNICEF may coordinate with SSRRC to support the remaining households in need. The total caseload is spread over 12 villages identified as in need. To-date, 4 villages have been addressed and the rest are ongoing.

UPPER NILE ►Background In Fangak County, inter-tribal clashes were reported in the Canal area. Displacements occurred to Doleib, Oleb and Padwa.

WARRAP ►Background Inter-tribal fighting was reported late December in Wun Chei. An inter-agency assessment is ongoing and full assessment report is pending. Additionally, tribal clashes in early January displaced populations to Tonj North and Gogrial East Counties.
