Enid Fraser (Chair)

Enid is a retired headteacher. She spent 8 years as headteacher at in having previously been the Deputy Head. Following this period, she became part of ’s School Improvement Team, supported primary and secondary schools across the county, delivered training, helped to develop the original NPQH and became a course leader. She also trained as an Ofsted inspector as part of the Cumbria team, participating in many inspections in the north of . In 1999, Enid returned to headship at Parkview School in Barrow in Furness. Retiring in 2008, she became Executive Officer for the South Lakes Federation (Ltd) where she managed the business, worked closely with schools and their headteachers and supported the strategic direction and development of the federation. She has worked as an independent consultant and been involved in the recruitment of number of senior leaders in schools. Enid is currently the Chair of the South Westmorland MAT Board. She lives in Levens.

Sarah Swindley (Vice Chair)

Sarah is currently the CEO of the Lake District Foundation, a new charity established in 2017 that works with the Lake District National Park to generate income from the 19 million annual visitors to the region. Prior to this she was the CEO of Cumbria and Lancashire Women’s Centres, which provided one-stop shop health and social care services to women with a range of needs including mental health, social exclusion and complex vulnerabilities. Sarah was appointed as a Board Member of the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership in 2019 and works with partners to provide a strategic lead on all activities contributing to the county’s economic growth. Sarah is also a Professor in Practice in the Institute of Health at the University of Cumbria. Sarah lives in Silverdale and has a son studying at Dallam.

Dr Andy Knox

Dr Andy Knox is Director of Population Health and Engagement for Bay Health and Care Partners in Morecambe Bay and an Executive GP for Morecambe Bay CCG. He is a partner at Ash Trees Surgery in Carnforth and Stoneleigh Surgery in . He trained in Manchester and is an honorary senior lecturer at Lancaster University in ‘the centre for the alternative to social and economic injustice’ within the School of Sociology. He also sits on the NHS National Assembly. Andy is passionate about working with communities to tackle health inequalities and improve overall health and wellbeing. He is also focused on creating a culture of joy, kindness and excellence within the health and care system to support the health and wellbeing of teams. Andy writes regularly on his blogs: reimagininghealth.com and reimaginingthefuture.org and has a large number of followers on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Andy lives in Silverdale with his 3 children, 1 of whom attends .

Jane Lees CBE

Jane is a retired Headteacher who spent 14 years at Hindley High School in Wigan where she focused on raising attainment, achievement and aspirations in the school community. She started her teaching career as a teacher of biology and moved on to become Head of Science and Deputy Headteacher, experiencing both highly challenging and high performing schools. Jane became the President of the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) and represented members nationally and internationally. She is at present the Chair of Trustees for ASCL. Jane has also been seconded to the Department for Education and worked with several Secretaries of State for Education. Her most recent position was as the Chair of the Bureaucracy Review Group. She has a particular interest in leadership and has mentored a number of principals and headteachers in this country and in the US, Russia and Uganda, through her work with the British Council and the National College for School Leaders. In 2013 she was awarded a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the New Year Honours for her services to Education. Jane lives in Crosthwaite with her husband.

Martin Shevill

Martin started his career in Sheffield as a teacher of geography and became head of department in two schools. He was involved in two major national curriculum development projects and also wrote the Key Stage 3 geography series ‘Geography 2000’. After a brief spell as a Lecturer in Education at Sheffield University, Martin moved on to deputy headship in Kirklees followed by his first headship of King James’s School in Huddersfield. He later moved on to be Principal of Ossett in Wakefield. During this time, he acted as a National Leader in Education. He stepped down from his position of CEO of Consilium Academies in August 2019. Martin has been a trustee of the Geographical Association, is a former Board member of the Confederation of School Trusts (CST) and was formerly on the Headteacher Board for Lancashire and West Yorkshire. He is the Senior Education Adviser of National Teaching Accreditation (NTA), overseeing the work of the QA Officers and is a Fellow of the Chartered College for Teaching (FCCT). Martin is currently the Acting Headteacher of Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Wakefield until 31 August 2021. Martin lives in Sheffield with his wife.

Rupert Villiers Smith

Rupert and his wife took on the Dallam Tower Estate in Milnthorpe following the death of his grandfather in 2001. Rupert founded a foreign exchange and payments company, CrossbarFX, in 2004 to build upon a similar business he founded in South Africa in 1995 and the head office is based at Sandside. Rupert was an Army Officer for 5 years and is currently a Director of 25 years’ experience sitting on a variety of both UK and non-UK Company Boards. His commercial activities are mainly in the financial services and property sectors. Rupert is currently Chair of the Dallam School Charitable Trust. The Trust owns much of the land and buildings at the school’s Heversham and Milnthorpe sites and provides funding support for the maintenance of the school and a number of key projects including the recent expansion of the Boarding House. Rupert lives with his family at Dallam Tower.

Alan Gerrard

Alan has over 23 years experience as a school governor, 10 of which were as Chair of a large Junior School in Northamptonshire. Alan has completed the National College for Leadership 'Chairs of Governors' Leadership Development Programme'. Alan is retired but previously worked as an R&D Director in Unilever's Ice Cream business, with responsibility for significant capital assets, budgets and numbers of people. During his career he has lived and worked in the Netherlands, Austria and Thailand. In addition to being a Trustee of the South Westmorland MAT Board, Alan is also Chair of the Dallam School Local Advisory Committee and sits on a number of Board and LAC committees. Alan lives in Crosthwaite with his wife.

Pam Houghton

Pam is a director of several family businesses, involved in the design and manufacture of vehicle transporters; commercial and retail property development; alongside retail businesses. In the past, Pam enjoyed the challenges presented whilst serving as a Non-Executive Director for a period of eleven years, on the boards of both Lancaster Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and as a Founder Trustee of University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. Pam continues to serve as a Trustee of Springfield Charitable Trust, a charity that strives to provide help and accommodation for woman dealing with domestic abuse. Pam lives in Beetham with her husband and family.

John Moffat

John has lived and worked in South Cumbria since July 2003 when he joined the National Trust, where he is currently the General Manager for their South Lakes portfolio. In this role, he is responsible for leading the team looking after all their assets in the Hawkshead and Coniston area, including a large built (both residential and agricultural) and countryside and woodland estate, several visitor attractions including the internationally known Hill Top, and much of the legacy left to the Trust by Beatrix Potter. Having graduated in history from Manchester University, prior to moving to the Lakes, John spent nearly 10 years working at the World Scout Centre based in the Swiss Alps, the last 6 of them as Director split between the Centre and offices in Geneva and Brussels. He now lives in Heversham with his wife and two children, both of whom are students at Dallam.
