Ibstock

The small town of Ibstock lies 4km from the centre of Coalville. According to the 2011 Census there were 5,650 people residing in Ibstock’s Built Up area The town is on the A447 between Coalville and . The area covers 145.4 hectares and has a population density of 38.8.

Population:

According to the 2011 Census the total population of the built-up urban area of Ibstock stood at 5,650.

The three top sectors in terms of employment in the Ibstock area are Wholesale; Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles & Motor Cycles with 19.1% of total employment; followed by Manufacturing (17.2%) and Human Health & social work Activities (10.7%).

In terms of Types of Employment the 3 categories of Management and Professional, Ibstock saw 30.7% of its working population within these sectors, below the District as a whole 38% and 40% for England & Wales as a whole.

Ibstock Built-up Area has a much lower proportion of its population with Level 4 and above qualifications, compared with the District as a whole with only 16% of the 16 – 64 year olds at this level. At the opposite end of the scale more people have no qualifications at nearly 1 in 3 compared with 26% in the District as a whole and nationally 22.5%. These figures relate to 2011 and since then there have been significant changes in the Districts Qualification breakdown.

The rate for the local ward is slightly below for NWL District and much lower than Great Britain’s 1.9%

Town Centre – types of businesses

In 2017, according to an NWLDC review, there were around 41 retail/service business premises in the town centre, of which 35 (85%) were independents. This is significantly higher than the national average of 67%. There is a good mix of retail establishments 14 (34%) and also pubs and cafes (22%); Hair and Beauty 3 (7%); Professional & Financial Services 5 (12%) and other 7 (17%) .

Vacancy rates

As at February 2018, there are 3 empty units in the town centre, representing 7.3% of the total stock.

Large employers

Ibstock is home to the world famous Ibstock Brick which takes its name from the village and is one of the main employers. Other key employers are tool manufacturer, ATA Garrysons and Davidsons – the house builder has its Head Offices in the village.
