Iron Butt – North Wales

On Sunday 23rd July 2017 a stalwart group of Hatters met up at Lymm Truck Stop Services on the M6 to join Assistant Director Malc Broadbent for his Iron Butt Ride around North Wales. This was going to be a long day’s ride estimated at around 245 mile so an early set off time of 9 am was the order of the day.

The outward route went via the M56 and Queensferry bypass to Ruthin then along the A5 to Betws-y-Coed for a fuel stop and a short break at the station car park.

From Betws-y-Coed the ride continued on the A5 through and up through the spectacular Pass and Pen-y-Pass between the mountain ranges of and the massif - the highest mountain in Wales. On arrival in the village of Llanberis there was time to stop off for another break with the opportunity to have a look around the National Slate Museum located at Gilfach Ddu in the 19th–century workshops of the now disused Dinorwic slate quarry.
