SERS of turpentine have long been familiar with the Yaryan - brand. Since taking over the produc- tion of Yaryan Naval Stores we have “been able so to improve them that we are glad to attach the name Hercules _ to these naval stores products. Yar- yan turpentine will hereafter be known as Hercules turpentine. Hercules steam-distilled wood tur- pentine is produced under a strict - - chemical control which ensures a rig- =~ id adherence to specifications and a product of absolute uniformity. Her- cules turpentine also has a sweet piney smell that distinguishes it from the poorer grades of turpentine. We invite correspondence on the sub- ject of Hercules Turpentine as it con- cerns your processes and formulas.

Results of Extensive Experiments in Working Longleaf Virgin Timber.

(By Austin Cary, U. S. Forest Service.) ; Seventh Paper. The studies previously recounted had to do with second growth timber entirely. The courtesy and interest of a large company in Western Territory

EVERY NAVAL STORES MAN

SHOULD URGE HIS CONGRESS- MAN TO WORK FOR THIS

An appropriation was secured from Congress last year for the establish- ment of a forest experiment station in the southern pine belt. Work, which began in July, is already under way in Louisiana,, Missssippi, Ala- bama, Georgia and Florda. Bills in- troduced by Senators Ransdell of Louisiana and Fletcher of Florida carried $50,000, but only about $15,- 000 became available in the regular appropriation bill of the United States Department of Agriculture. Considering the great extent of the forest lands in the South, the eco- nomic importance of its timber and other forest products, and the wide range of problems which must be solved, $50,000 is none too large to conduct the work effectively. The forest experiment station will Ask for COUNCIL'’S Planters Hoe determine the best means of reforest-
