4 WELCOME

S unday 29 January – BOZAR, Brussels

11:00 CONCERT Revue Blanche presents musical testimonies to the emotional depth of the composers who dealt with the horrors of the First World War.

12:00 UNDERSTANDING AND DEVELOPING AUDIENCES FOR MUSIC: WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE? This interactive workshop will explore the evidence and its implications. Can we really get bigger audiences if we ditch the rigid rituals and conventions of music? And can we really attract young people if we play in alternative, ‘cool’ surroundings? Is the concert better if it’s shorter? Or longer? Includes food and drink? Or a light show? Can we influence young people’s musical tastes? And does what we say about our concerts really make a difference? For two years, the New Music: New Audiences project tested new ways of meeting the audience. That’s 32 contemporary classical music ensembles, 18 countries and 16 languages. Come and find out what happened – chaos or coherent answers. Join audience development consultant Heather Maitland to discuss how we can engage audiences in the future of music.

This common identity is very important to them. They came together to work out an original repertoire containing music from several centuries. The idea is to bring out their richness and diversity in all its aspects.
