ADVENTIST LIFE Being vegetarian and Seventh-day Adventist, my parents are known to their non-Adventist friends for being strict about their diet and routine. One Friday evening, just before Sabbath, they realized they needed Slim Fast for Daddy's Sabbath breakfast. While waiting in the checkout line, Mom ran into some non- Adventist friends, who asked, "What are you doing here?" "Vern has to drink this before he goes to church," Mom explained. "Oh," they said, apparently thinking it was some strange religious ritual. "Only because he doesn't take time for breakfast," Mom added, much to their relief. —Lois Beavers, Keystone Heights, Florida

Many years ago I excitedly visited an Adventist church. I had recently learned it was the church I had always hunted for. As it happened, I entered the church just in time for the foot-washing ritual. Downstairs with the other women I noticed that an old lady had cut her finger and two friends were stemming the bleeding. Mistakenly I thought, Oh, we're here to return blood to Jesus. Such was my childlike faith that day. They could have taken a quart out of me. ADVENTIST QUOTES —Mary E. White, Lopez, Washington

Planting and Harvesting Seasons change. So do the ways we share the message.

ET ME TALK TO YOU FOR A FEW MINUTES ABOUT HOW

well we're doing: of the 300 million people who live in the North

American Division, 299 million of them are not part of us. And the

compelling fact is that the majority of them have no idea of the lisissues of the great controversy or the events about to break upon our world.

More than half the people on our continent do not recognize the name "Seventh-day

Adventist." In spite of our 150-year history, our extensive media presence, Loma Linda

University, and Waco, barely half the population can identify us. Those who attempt to

are often incorrect, confusing us with Latter Day Saints or Jehovah's Witnesses.

Yet we are mandated by Jesus Christ Himself to present "this gospel of the

kingdom" to this continent in the most alluring manner we know how. There is no

greater issue for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America. To accomplish

this immense task, changes will have to take place. We need to change.
