What is Giving Tuesday? In the US, GivingTuesday refers to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, this year it will fall on 3. GivingTuesday is a movement to create an international day of charitable giving at the beginning of the and holiday season. The global celebration runs for 24 hours beginning at midnight local time and Arena Theater will be joining the movement this year for the first time.

How it all began GivingTuesday began in 2012 as a simple idea: to bring people together for a day of giving back and over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. GivingTuesday isn’t just about fundraising, it’s about communities banding together and giving of their time, power, skills, expertise and resources. In the spotlight: Cinema Recently, we have put the spotlight on our cinema program, the lifeblood of Arena Theater, representing the bulk of our programming. Arena Theater is the only movie house on the coast between Fort Bragg and Guerneville, and we proudly show a wide variety of first-run films, from Oscar winners to superhero flicks and everything in between. What you may not know is that our cinema program does not break even financially; in fact, cinema has had significant losses. It is only with the support from donors and members like you and our other programs that we are able to continue showing current Hollywood films. To give our cinema program a boost, we have launched our Cinema Stars campaign, an exciting new opportunity for movie lovers to help keep the curtain open!

Make GivingTuesday the day to become a Cinema Star! When you donate to this campaign at the following levels you will receive:

$250 One Star: Free 15 medium popcorns at movies, good for one year $500 Two Stars: Free medium popcorn at movies for one year $1000 Three Stars: Free popcorn of any size at movies for one year, plus 12 movie passes

If you’d rather skip on the perks and still want to contribute to cinema, you can donate directly to our restricted Cinema Fund.
