NGO Profile/Objectives:- Afghanistan Nothilfe was founded in 1983 in Pakistan for Afghan· refugees as non-political humanitarian organization. It developed its cross-border work in 1987 majorly in the field of health and education. For the southwest (in Kandahar) ANH. e.v. has an sub-office opened in 1987 in Quetta to superviseACKU- its activities in areas of health, construction and education.: Presently, ANHe.v. is running a 25 bed hospital plus some BHUs in different locations of the province. A number of primary achools have been established in the province in which 30 teachers are provided with salaries. In collaboration with GTZ, ANHe.v. has repaired or reconstructed Mirwais Lycee, technical school of Arghandab and several bridges and irrigational canals. A number of houses for vulnerable groups (widows, orphans) has been reconstructed. Spin-Boldak bridge has been repaired.

NGO Profile/Obiectives:- British Afghan Trust previous BMTTC was founded on December 10, 1989 as a teachers training centre in Quetta. BAT trained unprofessional primary school teachers both from ACKUrefugee camps in Pakistan and from Afghanistan. In early 94 BMTTC was changed to BAT after which it entirely moved to Badghis Province in the northwest of Afghanistan.

At present BAT is training teachers to upgrade their skills in the new methods of teaching.

' ' . ACKU··- -· The crossborderpr-Ogram consists of primary health clinics most of whom are t;quipped with lab, facilities. In 1992 IAHC began to support govt. hospitals in Kandahar, Ghazni and Lashkargah cities in providing them with emergency medical supplies. Presently IAHC runs a complex of health services of MCH, OPD, Malaria .Lab., Maternity Home (20 beds), Refresher training, and a unit for disabled rehabilitation. Wells have been dug and barren lands are irrigated and cultivated as income-gen. to make local community self-sustainable. In Kand. city a hospital. has just began to work devouted only for women and children. If situatign improves tAHC will expand its program in Kandahar· and ot·her provinces.

NGO Profile/Objectives:-.,.. Jam Rehabilitation Development Agency JRDA was established in June 1993 as an Afghan NGO offering health services for Afghan refugees in Quetta and its suburbs. The services incl.ude 20 in-patient facility, operation theater, x-rays, vaccination and laboratory. The Jam Shafa Hospital being run by JRDA carry out surgical operations, examine and treat OPD patients and vaccinate women and children. JRDA has a mobile services in refugee camps in Quetta as well. MDC has been supporting both MCPA and DAFA in demining in the southwest of Afghanistan. MDC in collaboration with DAFA committed independent demining began in Nov. 1993.
