Research Activity The research activity is documented by more than 250 full papers, the majority of which have been published on international indexed journals. H index: 51 (Scopus), 59 (Google Scholar) The research activity was mainly centered on the following themes:  The identification of endocrine cells in the gastrointestinal tract, in the pancreas and related tumors.  The study of gastroduodenal pathology in Helicobacter pylori infection.  The study of gastric carcinoma using histochemical and molecular markers.

1  The study of histopathology in gastro-esophageal reflux disease.  The study of colon carcinoma using histochemical and molecular markers.  Interstitial lung diseases and cryobiopsy.

Past and current assignments:  Head of research unit for numerous research projects funded by the Italian Ministry of Research (MIUR 1997,1999, 2000, 2004, 2009).  Leading pathologist in an international group aimed at the standardization of histopathology in gastro-esophageal reflux disease (EsoHisto project);  Editor in Chief of Pathologica, the Journal of the Italian Pathological Society;  Member of the Editorial Board of "Gastric Cancer", the official journal of the Japanese Gastric Cancer Association and of the International Gastric Cancer Association;  Coordinator the Italian Digestive Pathology Group (GIPAD).
