Full Press Release
IMTA ALUM GARRETT HEDLUND IN TRIPLE FRONTIER IMTA Press Release March 5, 2019 Triple Frontier opens in limited theatrical release Wednesday, March 6, and begins streaming on Netflix Wednesday, March 13. “Back in Minnesota, one of the only ways you could leave the farm was through sport. That’s why everybody in the Midwest—or at least where I grew up—is a triathlete. We all just wanted to get out. But for me, the way to get out was acting.” — Garrett Hedlund Triple Frontier centers on a group of former Special Forces operatives who reunite to plan a heist in a sparsely populated multi-border zone of South America. For the first time in their prestigious careers these unsung heroes undertake this dangerous mission for self instead of country. While each of them has served the U.S. in multiple operations— and been wounded as a reward—they still don't have the money to put kids in college, so a new plan dangles that money in front of their faces. But when events take an unexpected turn and threaten to spiral out of control, their skills, their loyalties and their morals are pushed to a breaking point in an epic battle for survival. IMTA alum Garrett Hedlund stars in Triple Frontier alongside Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Adria Arjona and Pedro Pascal. The film is directed by Academy Award nominee J.C. Chandor and co-written by Chandor and Academy Award winner Mark Boal. The action feature is set to join the exclusive group of Netflix original films that get a theatrical release in select theaters before premiering on the streaming service. -

life TUESDAY, JULY 27, 2010 [ MEDIA ] Jezebel — the Web site that roared A recent spat over a TV show’s hiring policies could lead to blog requests being taken more seriously BY SARAH HuGHes THE GUARDIAN, NEW YORK alked about on numerous blogs and Web sites, covered by the New York Times, attacked by The Daily Show and T attracting upwards of 38m global page views a month, the women’s Web site Jezebel has clearly come of age. It also needs to be noted that the site has overtaken its infamous sibling, the gossipy Gawker, in terms of notoriety after a public spat with Jon Stewart’s Daily Show. Gaby Darbyshire, Gawker Media’s chief operating officer, told the New York Observer that Jezebel “has received more complaints per year than any other [Gawker media] site,” while Gawker’s founder, Nick Denton, told the New York Times that it was no longer seen by advertisers as “a cute new entrant” on the blogging scene. The spat with The Daily Show began with a report by the site’s Irin Carmon on the program’s hiring policies, which highlighted the lack of women in senior writing or on-air positions and argued that it was “a boys’ club where women’s contributions are often ignored and dismissed”. Although The Daily Show had declined to comment for Carmon’s original piece, a visibly flustered Stewart attempted to address the issue a week later stating: “Jezebel thinks I’m a sexist prick.” In the days that followed The Daily Show released an open letter rebutting Carmon’s report titled “Dear People Who Don’t Work Here” and signed by more than 30 female employees. -

William Burroughs: Sailor of the Soul. A.J. Lees Reta Lila Weston Institute
William Burroughs: Sailor of the Soul. A.J. Lees Reta Lila Weston Institute of Neurological Sciences, Institute of Neurology, University College London WC1 ([email protected]). Abstract In 1953 William Seward Burroughs made several important and largely unrecognised discoveries relating to the composition and clinical pharmacological effects of the hallucinogenic plant potion known as yagé or ayahuasca. Illustrations of Burroughs’ voucher sample of Psychotria viridis and his letter to the father of modern ethnobotany Richard Evans Schultes are published here for the very first time. Introduction. William Seward Burroughs (1914-1997) demonised by post-War American society eventually came to be regarded by many notable critics as one of the finest writers of the twentieth century. In my article entitled Hanging around with the Molecules and my book Mentored by a Madman; The William Burroughs Experiment I have described how as a young medical student I forged a Mephistolean pact with ‘the hard man of hip’ that allowed me to continue my medical studies. Many years later Burroughs was behind my determination to resurrect apomorphine for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease (Stibe, Lees, and Stern 1987) and employ the Dreamachine to better understand the neurobiology of visual hallucinations. Junkie helped me understand the dopamine dysregulation syndrome, far better than any learned paper. My patients craved, then wanted but never enjoyed their anti-Parkinson Ian medication (Giovannoni et al. 2000) . After reading the Yage Letters in 1978 I also came to see William Burroughs as a shady traveller in the grand tradition of the Victorian naturalists. In this article I reveal how his ethnobotanising in the Colombian and Peruvian Amazon contributed an important and largely unrecognised footnote to the unraveling of the phytochemistry of ayahuasca (yagé). -
And the Ship Sails On
And The Ship Sails On by Serge Toubiana at the occasion of the end of his term as Director-General of the Cinémathèque française. Within just a few days, I shall come to the end of my term as Director-General of the Cinémathèque française. As of February 1st, 2016, Frédéric Bonnaud will take up the reins and assume full responsibility for this great institution. We shall have spent a great deal of time in each other's company over the past month, with a view to inducting Frédéric into the way the place works. He has been able to learn the range of our activities, meet the teams and discover all our on-going projects. This friendly transition from one director-general to the next is designed to allow Frédéric to function at full-steam from day one. The handover will have been, both in reality and in the perception, a peaceful moment in the life of the Cinémathèque, perhaps the first easy handover in its long and sometimes turbulent history. That's the way we want it - we being Costa-Gavras, chairman of our board, and the regulatory authority, represented by Fleur Pellerin, Minister of Culture and Communication, and Frédérique Bredin, Chairperson of the CNC, France's National Centre for Cinema and Animation. The peaceful nature of this handover offers further proof that the Cinémathèque has entered into a period of maturity and is now sufficiently grounded and self-confident to start out on the next chapter without trepidation. But let me step back in time. Since moving into the Frank Gehry building at 51 rue de Bercy, at the behest of the Ministry of Culture, the Cinémathèque française has undergone a profound transformation. -
