The Premises Offered by the Village Hall Trustees due to relocation to new premises. This Listed detached property (with an IoE number of 409184) was built as a Congregational Chapel in 1826. A Methodist Chapel was built in 1880 close by on the other side of The Street. By the 1920s so many of the members of the Congregational Chapel had been attracted away that it fell into disuse. The Womens' Institute started holding meetings in the Chapel in 1923 and bought it in 1934. In 1960 it was sold to the Trustees of Manuden Hall Village Charity.

The building is largely timber-framed, externally rendered under a pitched slated roof. The main Hall has high ceilings, which could conceivable accommodate another floor (subject to P/P) with small lower extensions to one side and rear. The front has twin Gothic arched head windows flanking a central doorway. Maximum overall width 27’ (8.25m) by depth 44’ 9” (13.61m). Gross internal floor area 1,157 sq.ft. (107.5 sq.m.)

Location The village is located 4 miles from Bishop’s Stortford and 9 miles from Saffron Walden. Communications are considered to be excellent as the nearest M11 motorway intersection is at Birchanger (Junction 8 - 3 miles) and railway station at Bishop’s Stortford with travel time to the City by rail of 36 minutes duration, and by road about 1 hour. London Stansted Airport is 4 miles and Cambridge University City, with its associated Hi-Technology phenomenon about 20 miles.

The Village Manuden is situated in Essex and the District Council Administrative region, though close to the border. This is a relatively small but highly popular settlement where relatively high property prices tend to prevail. The main built-up environ surrounds ‘The Street’, where a fine array of historic buildings are to be found in the Conservation Area. The surrounding agricultural land rises gently and it lies on the western side of the . Once known as ‘Magghedana’, the name is thought to mean ‘Common Valley’.

It is therefore suitable as a place or worship, hall, clinic, health centre, museum, gallery, consulting room etc. All interested parties are advised to make their own enquiries of the Planning Authority.
