Please click here for our latest Consolidation Updates (6/2/21): https://www.nanuethc.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Consolidation-Update-6-2-21.pdf

Tu B’Av is celebrated on the 15th of Av. (This year it falls sundown on Friday, July 23rd to nightfall on Saturday, July 24th). Tu B’Av comes six days after Tisha B’Av, the saddest day of the Jewish calendar.

We’re always taught that we should find light in the darkness. Tu B’Av arrives when there is the extra light of a full moon (like many Jewish celebrations).

This pandemic year has added extra darkness. Many were separated from loved ones; there were numerous disruptions to our daily routines and plans. Simply put, we now want to add to the joy and light.

AND SO … We ask you to email to us a picture (or two) of you and your “loves” (wedding pictures & family pictures, etc.) – along with a short message. We will be using these pictures to create a photo slide show for viewing on our NHC & MJC Facebook pages – and on the big screen in the NHC Lobby. (We also will forward to you a link to the show!)

Time is of the essence - the last day to submit your photo (or two) and message is Friday, July 16, 2021. Please email your photos and message, as soon as possible to Mitch Spiegel at: [email protected]

Please note the NHC Office will be closed from June 24th through July 5th. During this period, please leave a message and we will get back to you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

We are extremely excited about the joint collaboration of our Nanuet Hebrew Center religious school with Montebello Jewish Center's religious school, “MAKOM” and the funds we receive from this A+ Points program will be used to help ensure its success. Please click here for the A+ Program flyer: www.nanuethc.org/wp- content/uploads/2020/06/Stop-and-Shop-Earn-Cash-for-NHC-Religious-School-6-20.pdf • Tzedakah Tribute Donations: It is very simple to make a Tzedakah Tribute Donation to NHC. For a minimum of $5, you may pick a fund - General Fund, Rabbi's Discretionary Fund, Cantor's Discretionary Fund, Building Fund, Shabbos Club, Hebrew School, Prayer Books or Bonnie Lynne Religious School Scholarship. We will send the person you are making the tribute to a card acknowledging your donation; and will also list your donation in the monthly Bulletin. (Note, the amount of your donation is NOT included on the tribute card, or in the Bulletin.) These donations may be made in honor of a simcha, in memory of a loved one, in appreciation of someone, offering get well wishes, etc. Tribute Donations is a great way to help NHC and acknowledge life cycle events. (Note - if you are making a tribute donation to someone who is not affiliated with NHC, please be sure to include their address so that we know where to mail the tribute card.) To make a Tzedakah Tribute Donation, please contact Jessica Gottlieb at [email protected] or (845) 624-0017. Sisterhood Leagram Donations also may be made to acknowledge life cycle events of our congregants. Please see the "Sisterhood Leagram List" included as an insert with our monthly Bulletin for more information on these important donations, and where they should be sent. We offer several additional ways to honor or remember your loved ones. These include purchasing a plaque on our Memorial Board, purchasing a leaf or stone on our Tree of Life, as well as purchasing a brick on Rabbi's front brick walk. Please click here for more info: www.nanuethc.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Three- Ways-to-Honor-or-Remember-Your-Loved-Ones.jpg Donations may be made by check, credit card or cash. More substantial donations to NHC also may be made by transfer of stock securities. • Attention those 70½ and older who are forced to take their “RMD” (Required Minimum Distribution) from an IRA Account: Instead of having the RMD push you into a higher tax bracket (and potentially adding penalties or surcharges against Social Security and Medicare Payments), please ask your tax accountant about a “QCD” (Qualified Charitable Donation), which is a tax-free annual gift (up to $100,000) to a charitable organization such as NHC. This QCD would help offset satisfying your RMD, potentially lowering your taxable annual income (and possibly your tax bracket) while at the same time greatly helping Nanuet Hebrew Center.

Our MAKOM Religious School is looking for congregants who can: read Hebrew; know the prayers for Friday night and Shabbat morning services; have some free time on Sunday mornings; like children and enjoy spending time with them; may want to become part of Makom’s new Mentoring program. We are looking to pair some of our MAKOM students who could benefit from the supportive interaction and guidance provided on a weekly or semi-monthly basis by a caring and involved mentor such as yourself. We are expecting to have this program up and running after the High Holidays in September 2021. If you are interested in participating (or know someone who might be) or have any questions, please contact Gail Kaiser or Jeff Schragenheim at [email protected] [or call the NHC Office at (845) 708-9181 and leave a message for Rebecca Bernstein, Educational Director, Makom].
