page 2 The School As Seen Through Our Eyes

To call in an annual report, the past years a success might merely be a formality but having known what we have done this past year, how much fun and knowledge the school has succeeded in imparting to the students, calling these past years a successful step towards a better year is not a formality but a pleasure, a gratifying fact.

The notion behind any educational institution is to be as complete in its offerings as possible, to not just offer a way to achieve academic excellence but also to provide means to learn and master sports, learn cultures, all the while learning ethics of life, morality and building character. This is just what we have experienced during our stay in DPS.

The school’s success in this endeavour is witnessed in the observation of the delegates from the Ministry of Education, during their visit and I quote “I can see how the school is providing a holistic education for its pupils. There is a strong pervasive ethos of care in the school, with the parents playing an active supportive role."

The constantly changing times have had its bearing on the educational values and approaches; however we at DPS have experienced the commitment to academic excellence. An intellectually strong mind offers a foundation for all great educational experiences; it is a foundation that will never waver. DPS follows a methodical and elaborate approach to build this foundation, via cyclic tests, semester exams that are held twice a year coupled with regular internal assessments and supplementary worksheets.

We are not a society if we don’t teach and value the diversities of this world be it inside or outside the campus, be it in culture or lifestyle. To instill the importance of friendship and universal brotherhood is one of the school's foremost interest and the seeds for it were sown through the "International Friendship Camp”

Academic excellence has been an integral part of this institution’s growth and we take immense pleasure in congratulating each and every student, parent and staff in helping us achieve it year in and year out, their concerted efforts have left us with proud results. We have the distinction of achieving 100% results for the 7th consecutive year in a row.

It is also a part of school's responsibility to nurture the curiosity of students, to help us see beyond books, to understand and question the existing scientific notions and what better way to do that than the "Science Olympiad" – An event that motivates students to strive for better and deeper understanding of scientific facts and data to enhance their reasoning, analytical and problem solving skills.

Our constant efforts to make subjects as interesting as possible can be seen through the history, mathematics, Science and Language weeks conducted on a regular basis – students conduct Audio visual presentations, exhibitions and participate in recitation, debates, extempore, quiz contests. Special mention must be made of the Business Fair where we donated the proceeds to charities. The joy and satisfaction experienced by all motivated us to become socially responsible citizens.

A school being keen to improve is only half the job done, what completes it are the students. Student participation and interest has led to our successful participation in myriad events over the years, one such being the World in Singapore concert in which international schools and local schools share a unique platform to showcase their talent This concert is organised to expose students to cultural differences and encourage cross cultural learning. It is a platform for students with common interests in the performing arts to interact and exhibit their talent in a non competitive environment and DPS has been participating in this prestigious event for the past four years..

As the Greeks would say " Mens sana in corpore sano", and to ensure a sound body for our smart minds, we offer training by experienced professional instructors in Steve McMahon, former England International and Liverpool Legend who aims to build a team comprising of 25 students from DPS who will be visiting UK to play soccer. The rewards have started to flow, where the students are being benefited by being a part of the extracurricular activities, to name a few, badminton, swimming, cricket, bowling and many other sports.

The school is also proud of the spectrum of co curricular activities that the students get exposed to – to name a few, Words smith, Book worm, Origami, Quilling, Science Club, Mathemagic and Spell Bee.

It is a source of enormous gratification to know how many supporters are here – parents, grandparents, faculty members, trustees, administrators, and we the students – who have joined in our efforts, your efforts to support the mission and values of this institution. We are indeed in good company of each other, and as long as this continues, the students will indeed be blessed with "a sound mind in a sound body".

page 3 We Are The World

DPS International School proudly presents our grand annual fiesta 2012 ‘We are the World,’ an epic exploration of ‘Relationships’ - the golden ties which bind the entire world. Our performances showcase a vision of fraternal solidarity that eradicate all boundaries between God’s creations and depict a humanism that embraces an inclusive notion of harmonious co-existence.

Our theatrical enactment of this vision is a two-fold act - the first act ‘Rishety’ (Relationships) compromises a thought-provoking exploration of some of our vital relationships that are elemental and unchanging. Our canvas of human emotions celebrates each vibrant hue of love, faith, courage and sacrifice as we depict the primal bond between a parent and a child; the values of selfless giving through the parable of the generous tree; the ideal love that shines bright against all odds and gives us a glimpse of God’s grace in an adaptation of the timeless classic ‘The Gift of the Magi;’ and finally the noblest depiction of the essence of each positive value that teaches us to erase the self in the service of a higher ideal - the story of a soldier who embraces martyrdom. As we open our hearts to this sublime vision of an ideal world our concepts of differences and boundaries prove illusory and we are ready for our second act of the evening ‘The Jungle Book.’ Facts about Anupam Kher Anupam Kher Our stage version of the Rudyard Kipling classic strives to rise above “[On the establishment • Held position of the conventional moral lessons associated with this beloved tale of of a new training anthropomorphic animals. 12 ISC Java Website!

Java programming has given the cyber world a completely different Creators perspective. Java language forms a base for almost all newly invented platforms and we cannot imagine this world without Java. •Harsh We, the students of Class XII ISC Computer Science are privileged to study such a popular programming language. A year ago, when we •Shivang began our Computer Science course, none of us knew what Java programming was about. In fact some of us didn’t even know how a •Siddhant basic programming language works. Initially, we thought Java was very difficult. But with the help of Ms. •Smit Deepthi, we soon got to grips with it. We worked hard at Java and have improved significantly. All the students of the class and the teacher, we •Srikanth all worked as a team to bring you the website. All the students of the Class XII ISC would like to thank our teacher Ms. •Apeksha Deepthi without whom this would not have been possible. The collective effort from Harsh Shah, Shivang Singh, Siddhant Gandhi, •Ms. Deepti Smit Shah, Srikanth Nair, Apeksha Arora and Ms. Deepthi have resulted in the creation of the website.

A very wide range of Java programs has been published on the site and it will be of great use for beginners. Several past year papers and practical programs have also been published on the site. Please do visit our site. We would be more than happy to receive any suggestions/feedback. https://sites.google.com/site/javamindzdpsis/
