HELP University and HELP Academy Scholarships & Bursaries 2019 Since its establishment in 1986, HELP has awarded many scholarships to encourage Malaysians and international students who demonstrate academic excellence and display leadership qualities to pursue their tertiary education at the university. Many of these recipients have completed their courses and have embarked on successful careers.

HELP welcomes both new and continuing students who are high achievers to apply for scholarships and Study Awards.

Full Scholarship, Partial Scholarship and Study Awards If you meet the minimum criteria stated, you are required to do the following: 1. Complete a HELP Scholarship Application Form and attach certified copies of your academic results transcript. 2. New students are required to submit a HELP Application Form to apply for the chosen programme and pay the Student Application Fee before submitting the scholarship application form. 3. New students will submit the respective forms and attachments to the Scholarship Officer in the Registry before the specified deadline. Late applications will not be considered for selection. 4. For consideration by the Scholarship Committee in May and October of each year, scholarship applicants must be registered students of HELP University or HELP Academy. Your form will be forwarded to the Scholarship Committee for consideration when the Committee meets, which is in May and October. 5. The decisions of the Scholarship Committee will be announced by the third week of May and October and the decisions are not subject to appeals.

Important Note: 1. As scholarship awards are limited and competitive, only candidates who meet the minimum criteria specified in this brochure are eligible to apply for the Scholarship Committee’s due consideration. 2. Meeting the minimum criteria does not automatically guarantee the applicant a scholarship. 3. All scholarship applicants will be evaluated and short-listed by the Scholarship Committee of HELP University/HELP Academy. HELP’s Scholarship Committee reserves the right to revise the criteria from time to time without prior notice. The decision of the Scholarship Committee is final. 4. Students are only entitled to one scholarship at any one time. (*Scholarships also include scholarships, prize winners, study awards, bursaries and fee waivers) 5. Applicants may be awarded a sum that may be less than what is stipulated in the Brochure, depending on the availability of the Scholarship Fund. 6. All scholarships are on a First Come, First Served Basis. 7. Scholarships may differ from intake to intake. Students are advised to submit their application before the stipulated deadline. 8. HELP-University of Queensland Scholarships (External Scholarship) Students studying the Bachelor of Business programme in the Department of Business Studies are invited to apply for final year study at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, University of Queensland in February / July 2019.

Value of Scholarship The scholarship values are at the discretion of HELP University. The scholarship will be disbursed via a waiver of tuition fees charged by The University of Queensland (UQ) as and when these fees become due and payable.

Selection Criteria The selection of scholars will be based on the following criteria: 1. Students must have a minimum academic achievement of CGPA 3.6 over 16 or 17 specified subjects in the Bachelor of Business (Hons) programme. * Students must have an unconditional offer for the final year of the Bachelor of Commerce, or Bachelor of Business Management at UQ. At the point of application for the Scholarship, students must be enrolled in the Bachelor of Business (Hons) programme at HELP University. 2. The financial background of the applicant may be taken into consideration. 3. Applicants must possess motivation in setting goals and perseverance in pursuing their set goals 4. Applicants must possess leadership and motivation as demonstrated by contributions to the community and HELP University. 5. The successful applicant must be willing and committed to participate in activities that foster cross-cultural awareness within UQ and the local community.

Applicants must be able to substantiate these criteria in the Scholarship Application Form.

Please note that Applicants are responsible for ensuring that they have sufficient funds to cover their own travel arrangements, accommodation and living expenses.

Successful applicants will undertake the final year of their UQ degree for the 2018/2019 academic year at the St Lucia campus.

HELP IT Industry Bursaries 2019 (HITIB2019) Together with our industry partners, HELP University is pleased to offer scholarships for all its HELP information technology (IT) undergraduate programmes. These include the Bachelor of IT (Hons); BIT (Hons) Business information Management and BIT (Hons) Mobile Computing.

These programmes have been developed in consultation with the IT industry to ensure that graduates are prepared for the requirements of practice. We offer a mix of academic and workplace learning environments. When they graduate, our students embark on exciting careers with our industry partners. The Scholarship Scheme is part of a joint effort to develop a strong core of Malaysian IT professionals with the talent, skill sets and ability to contribute meaningfully to the IT sector. Our students have opportunities to acquire industry knowledge even while studying in university.

The scholarship is summarized in the table below: DEGREE Benefits • Up to 50% Tuition Fee Waiver for NINE (9) Year 1 academic subjects only.

Entry Requirements Any one of the following • Recognised Matriculation or Foundation with CGPA 2.50 (non-HELP Foundation) • STPM: CGPA 2.50; • 2 ‘A’ Level passes with 1A; • Requiring financial assistance; And 3 SPM / ‘O’ Level credits, including a pass in BM, Sejarah & a credit in Mathematics.

Intakes January, April, May, August, October

Retention in the scholarship • The student MUST maintain full-time enrolment & complete the programme. • The student MUST maintain > 80% attendance in lectures and tutorials for each subject. • The student MUST maintain at least CGPA 2.00 each semester. • The student MUST maintain minimum of 40 contribution hours (long semesters) & 20 contribution hours (short semesters) of his/her time to assist the faculty.

School Achievers Scholarship Awards (SASA) These are targeted at student leaders with outstanding leadership qualities and sound academic performance. These scholarships are awarded to encourage holistic, all-round achievers amongst students in line with HELP’s education philosophy.

Special Chinese Independent Secondary School Scholarship Available to 5 Chinese Independent High Schools namely Chong Hwa Independent High School, , , Confucian Private Secondary School, Foon Yew High School (JB) and Foon Yew High School () for all HELP’s Undergraduate programmes.

Sports Scholarships For National Sportsman / Sportswoman Limited scholarship may be made available for National Sportsmen/Sportswomen, up to 100%, or State Sportsmen/Sportswomen, partial scholarships, on a yearly basis subject to approval.

10 Terms and Conditions

1. Students are allowed to switch award only once ie Bursary to Scholarship or vice versa. 2. Students will be entitled to only one of the scholarships or bursaries (whichever is higher) and students are not allowed to combine awards. 3. Applicants are required to pay all administration fees, course fees and external fees (if any) pending the decision of the Scholarship Committee. 4. For new students who have not joined HELP, a minimum payment of the Student Application Fee is required before the student is eligible to apply for scholarship. Otherwise, the scholarship application is considered null and void. 5. For students who have applied to join HELP for a chosen programme, he / she is expected to register during the intake date and is required to pay all administration fees, course fees and external fees (if any) by the last day of payment pending the decision of the Scholarship Committee. Otherwise, the scholarship application is considered null and void. 6. The scholarship/bursary is not applicable for payment of re-sit / re-enrolment fees. 7. For programme where course fees are charged by the subject (modular programme), the total scholarship amount is divided equally among the total number of subjects and will go towards payment of course fees payable to HELP 8. For programme where course fees are charged by the year (linear programme), the total scholarship amount will go towards payment of course fees payable to HELP 9. HELP reserves the right to revoke any scholarship / packaged bursary due to failure in examinations, unauthorized dropping of courses, withdrawal from programme before completion and / or non-compliance with HELP Rules and Regulations or other Terms & Conditions of the scholarship. Recipient may be required to repay the scholarship / bursary amount used upon revocation. 10. Recipients of the scholarship who are subsequently found in breach of any of the rules and regulations, academic or otherwise, will have their scholarship revoked and will be required to repay HELP the said sum of money. 11. All recipients of scholarship are required to contribute 3-5 hours per week of their time to assist the Head of Department or their designate in administration, peer counselling, extra-curricular activities, marketing and promotional activities. 12. The Scholarship Application deadline is as below: a) 2 weeks after commencement of programmes OR 2 weeks after the release of actual results. b) The Scholarship Committee will meet in mid-May and mid-October each year to shortlist candidates for the awards. 13. All decisions made by HELP University on matters pertaining to the scholarship will be final. Only short-listed applicants will be notified. 14. The qualifications required for the scholarship may vary from year to year. Applicants are to check with the Scholarship Officer on the requirements before applying. 15. Late and incomplete application forms will not be considered for selection.
