Examples of concepts are culture, social order, social movements, social change & birth control. Some questions addressed: Is political stability (social order) so crucial that it justifies the Chinese regime’s violations of human rights? Is the Falun Gong a social movement that is so severe a threat to the Chinese government that persecution of its practitioners is justified? Are women's reproductive rights human rights? What are the transformations taking place in China that make social order more important than human rights? Is the Universal Declaration of Human Rghts an example of Western cultural values that are foreign to Chinese civilization? Is exporting western human rights another example of globalization? The DVD is organized into five chapters that allow instructors to use shorter segments in the classroom, and includes an additional 64 minutes of dialog that offers an in-depth look at each of the issues. Commentary by fourteen scholars and activists was utilized in the production of this film.]

This project, jointly funded by the American Sociological Association and the National Science Foundation, has produced detailed analyses from questionnaires completed by almost 1,800 graduating sociology majors in 2005 and from approximately 800 of these students in 2007. The study provides answers to questions about the types of jobs, the usefulness of skills, the importance of internships, the closeness of jobs to sociology degrees, and the ways in which work careers can be satisfying for majors. The interactive workshop will both provide information and offer faculty and departments suggestions for class assignments, approaches to pedagogy, curricular organization, and co-curricular activities designed to enhance majors’ work career satisfaction and the links between jobs and degrees.]
