NOTE FROM THE IACL BOARD OF DIRECTORS: As outlined and explained at the General Membership Meeting on April 25, 2017, the Board of Directors unanimously decided to increase the price of weekly pasta dinners. This change is necessary to keep pace with increased inflation and costs of food service, entertainment and overall operating expenses. As you know, the prices have not been adjusted in SEVERAL years. Be assured that this price increase merely covers our cost of operating and does not in any way reflect a profit to the IACL Club or Banquet Center. The Board has decided that it is in the best interest of the membership and the future of the IACL to no longer lose money week after week, year after year. The price increase has begun on June 1, 2017. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with our efforts to reduce operating costs as we continue to improve our Club. NEW PRICING: Members: $15.00 | Non-Members: $20.00 | Children: $7.00 Sincerely, IACL Board Of Directors

LOVING HEARTS AND HANDS KNIT AND CROCHET GROUP

On a beautiful sunny December afternoon our ladies gathered for our annual Christmas lunch. We celebrated the holiday season with forty festive gift bags filled with nearly 400 knit and crochet items. During mid-December these bags filled with hats, scarfs, shawls, afghans, lap blankets and baby items were delivered to many area nursing homes and hospitals. We thank all the ladies and the beautiful work they make each year! Their time and efforts enable us to share with many needy.

We also thank the IACL and some cash donations received which has enabled our group to grow and generously donate to our community! Blessings to all this holiday season and we’re looking forward to 2018!

14 IACL NEWSLETTER JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2018 KIDZ KORNER Italian American Club of Livonia

From Gia Stone, Granddaughter of Pino & Laura Meloni

15 IACL NEWSLETTER JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2018 TEEN TYMES Italian American Club of Livonia TEEN TYMES 4 New Year’s Resolutions Every Teen Can Keep Up Looking for a fresh way to start the New Year? Try some of these simple yet impactful resolution ideas! Remember: the secret to goal setting is to be specific in what you want to achieve.

1. Take a break from social media Just the thought of limiting technology use can make some people cringe, but cutting down on social media increases productivity. Instead of lying on the couch scrolling through Instagram, take this time to organize your day by creating a to-do list of what needs to be completed and get started! Just 5 minutes of planning can make for a way less stressful week.

2. Pick up a new sport or hobby If you have too much free time on your hands, think about getting involved in something new. Whether it be learning a new language, how to play an instrument, or trying a new sport with friends, hobbies add joy to our lives. Have a friend join you in a new adventure!

3. Focus on schoolwork Although we may think of school as more of an opportunity for socializing with our friends, the purpose of going to school is to learn. If you aren’t satisfied with your grades, try learning in a new way by searching YouTube for simpler explanations of difficult concepts, or talk to your teacher before or after school about getting extra help.

4. Practice gratitude This is something that seems so straightforward but we all forget to do it. Being mindful of the family, friends, and material things we have is especially important this time of year. Incorporate appreciation into your life by writing thank-you notes, shopping less, or simply thanking family and friends more often.
