The BombersI finished 12-0 in the Empire 8 for the second straight season, giving them the top-seed in the con- ference tournament, and have now won a conference- record 25 consecutive Empire 8 games dating back to the 2004 campaign. The season also saw a pair of milestone victories for 19th-year head coach Deb Pallozzi, who recorded her 500th career victory and her 500th victory at Ithaca. The Bombers also received numerous individual accolades, including first-team all-America honors for senior catcher Hannah Shalett and junior pitcher Nicole Cade, who was selected as a utility player. It marked the second time in program history that two Ithaca players were named first-team all-Americans in the same season (the first time was in 1985). 10 Softball 2007 Captain Profiles ITHACA COLLEGE HANNAH SHALETT C, Sr., Four Letters; Bridgewater, Conn. 2007: Shalett, who was a NFCA first-team all-American and all- region selection, stared all 44 games at catcher as a senior and led the team with a career-best .417 batting average, the ninth-highest batting in a single-season at Ithaca. She had 55 hits (placing her fifth on the single-season list), 12 doubles, one home run, 31 RBIs and 26 runs scored. Shalett was named the Empire 8 Player of the Year and was a first team-all-conference selection after batting .541 in 12 con- ference games this season. She had 20 hits, 11 runs scored and 11 RBIs. Shalett has had at least one hit in 33 games this season and had a 13-game hitting streak beginning in the first game of a doubleheader at RIT and ending in the second game of a doubleheader at Division I Cornell. She had 14 multi-hit games, including a 4-for-4 performance in a win over Elmira and a 3-for-3 performance with a home run in a win at Utica. Shalett was named to the all- tournament team at the NCAA regional after batting .364 with two RBIs. After the season. she was named the winner of Ithaca’s Iris Carnell Award as the school’s top female athlete and was named the Empire 8 Woman of the Year. 2006: Shalett, a third-team NFCA all-region selection and first-team Empire 8 all-star, started all 47 games behind the plate, batting .362 with 54 hits, a team-leading 46 runs scored, 22 RBIs and 15 stolen bases hitting in the leadoff spot. She also had a .997 with a team-best 274 , 21 assists and just one in 296 chances. Shalett had 15 multi-hit games, including a three-for-four effort with three runs scored in a win over Utica. She was named the all-tournament team at the NCAA Northeast Regional tourna- ment and was named the Empire 8 Player of the Week once. Shalett was an Empire 8 Presidents’ List selection following the fall and spring semesters. 2005: Shalett was a first-team Empire 8 all-star and a second-team NFCA Northeast Region all-star. She batted .288 with a team-high 12 doubles and ranked second on the team with three triples. She was third on the team with 55 total bases. Shalett was named to the NCAA Northeast Regional all- tournament team after collecting five hits, including a home run, three RBIs and three runs. She was named the Empire 8 and ECAC Upstate New York player of the week after compiling a .429 batting average, .857 slugging percentage, and .600 on-base percentage in the Empire 8 tournament. Shalett hit a game-winning RBI double in the seventh inning against St. John Fisher to clinch the conference title. Softball 2007 11 ITHACA COLLEGE ERICA CUTSPEC SS, Jr., Three Letters; Fort Plain 2007: Cutspec, a second-team NFCA all-region selection started all 44 games at shortstop, ranked second on the team with a .392 batting average and led the team with 58 hits, 45 runs scored and 18 stolen bases. Her 58 hits and 45 runs scored were the third and fourth most in a single season at Ithaca, respectively. She was a first-team all- conference selection after batting .488 with 20 hits and 17 runs scored in 12 Empire 8 games. Cutspec has had at least one hit in 38 games and had a 15-game hit streak beginning on April 13 in the first game of a doubleheader against St. John Fisher and ended in the second game of a doubleheader against Division I Cornell on May 3. She had 15 multi-hit games, including four 3-for-4 performances in wins over Lake Forest, Fontbonne, RIT, Utica and Pitt-Bradford in the NCAA regional cham- pionship. Cutspec scored the only run in Ithaca’s 1-0 win over St. John Fisher in the conference tournament final and was named to the all-tournament team at the NCAA regional after batting .384 with three runs scored and three RBIs. 2006: Cutspec, a second-team NFCA all-Region selection and a first-team Empire 8 all-star, started all 47 games at shortstop, batting .372 with 51 hits, 37 runs scored, 35 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. Cade had a 0.54 ERA and recorded 40 strikeouts in 26.0 innings pitched and held conference opponents to a .174 batting average. In the Empire 8 Championship Tournament, she went 2-0 in three appearances, allowing just five hits and zero runs while striking out 20 batters in 18.0 innings. In the tournament final, Cade tossed a one-hitter with six strikeouts against St. John Fisher and threw a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts in the Bombers second-round win over the Cardinals. Softball 2007 13 ITHACA COLLEGE MEL CHINIGO OF/3B, Sr., Four Letters; Norwich, Conn. 2007: Chinigo started all 44 games as a senior and ranked second on the team with 27 RBIs. She had 28 hits, including eight for extra-bases, and scored 18 runs. Chinigo earned second-team all-conference honors after batting .355 in 12 Empire 8 games with 11 hits, 14 RBIs and nine runs scored. She went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in a win over Utica and went 1-for2 with a three-run homer in a win over Geneseo. Chinigo went 1-for-3 with one RBI in Ithaca’s 1-0 win over St. John Fisher in the conference tournament final. She ranks among Ithaca’s career leaders in RBIs (102—tied for fifth), runs scored (98—tied for ninth) and hits (124—tied for 16th). 2006: Chinigo, a first-team Empire 8 all-star, stated all 47 games in the outfield, batting .355 with 44 hits, 39 runs scored, 36 RBI and nine stolen bases. She went two-for- four with a career-high four RBI in a win over Cazenovia and went four-for-seven with six RBIs and two runs scored as Ithaca swept a doubleheader at Cortland. Chinigo also drove I three runs in victories over Elmira, Hartwick and Utica. 2005: Chinigo played in 39 games, with26 starts. She batted .263 with 20 hits, two home runs, 17 RBIs and 17 runs. She was named to the all-tournament team at the NCAA Northeast Regional tournament. She was named Empire 8 Player of the Week once. She hit a solo home run against King’s on March 19, the first of her career. 2004: Chinigo was a first-team Empire 8 all-star and was named a second-team NFCA northeast region all-star. She batted .296 with 24 RBIs, 32 hits and 22 runs scored. Chinigo stole a team-best 15 bases. She went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs in a sweep of Cazenovia. She hit her first career triple in a win over St. John Fisher, where she also recorded four RBIs and three hits. High School: Chinigo was a four-year letter winner for coach James Cotter at Norwich Free Academy. She was a first-team All-ECC selection her senior season, an honorable mention All-ECC selection her junior year and a second-team All-ECC selection her fresh- man and sophomore seasons. Derbyshire tossed a two-hitter with nine strikeouts against Lake Forest and pitched four hitless innings with 10 strikeouts to pick-up a win over Nazareth. She allowed just two hits over three innings with one strike- out against Division I Cornell. 2006: Derbyshire made seven appear- ances with two starts as a freshman. She posted a 1-0 record, allowing five earned runs with 17 strikeouts over 15.0 innings. Derbyshire won her collegiate against John Carroll, registering two strikeouts while holding the Blue Streak hitless over three innings. She also tossed scoreless relief efforts in wins over Cazenovia, Hartwick and RIT. High School: Derbyshire was a four-year letter winner at Upper Dublin High School for coach Heather Boyer. Flores has also made one appearance as a pitcher, tossing one hitless inning in a win over Nazareth. 2006: Flores lettered as a member of the softball team at Grinnell, where she posted a 7-6 record with a 2.70 ERA in 20 appearances as a freshman. She registered three complete games and recorded 78 strikeouts. Flores won her collegiate debut against Cardinal Strich, allowing two runs on two hits with one walk and 14 strike- outs over seven innings. High School: A 2005 graduate of Monte Maria High School, Flores was a member of the Guatemala National Team. She was named the Mayor League Player of the Year in 1999, 2004 and 2005 and was named the Rookie of the Year in 1998. Kowalsick went 2-for-3 with a triple and the first home run of her career and scored both of the Bombers runs in a 2-1 win over Rochester. In the Empire 8 Championship tournament, she batted .500 (7-14) in four games and went 3-for-4 in each of the last two games against St. John Fisher. 2006: Kowalsick started 16 of her 22 games played, batting .289 with 13 hits, 13 runs scored and 10 RBI. She went three-for-three with a double, two RBI and a run scored in the Bombers’ season-opening win over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and drove in two more runs in Ithaca’s second win of the year over Bethany. Marro was a first-team all-conference selection after batting .464 in 12 Empire 8 games with 13, hits, eight extra-base hits, four home runs, 15 RBIs and 10 runs scored. She had a 1.071 slugging percentage and a .571 on base percentage. Marro has at least one hit in 19 of the last 28 games, raising her batting average 161- points during that span. ITHACA COLLEGE CARLY MYERS P, Jr., Three Letters; Victoria, British Columbia 2007: Myers, a first-team all-region selection, posted an 11-5 record in 20 appearances this season with a 0.95 ERA and 91 strikeouts. She held opposing batters to a .178 batting average in 111.0 innings pitched. Myers was a first-team all-conference selection after post- ing a 5-0 record in six Empire 8 games with a 1.17 ERA and 29 strike- outs. She held conference opponents to a .154 batting average in 30.0 innings pitched. Myers has recorded a season-high nine strike- outs twice this season in wins over Alfred and Geneseo. 20 Softball 2007 ITHACA COLLEGE STACY PELESZ 3B, Jr., Three Letters; Livingston 2007: Pelesz, a first-team all-region selection, started each of her 40 games played at third base this season and ranked third on the team with a career-best .379 batting average. She had 39 hits, including a team-leading 14 doubles and two home runs, 25 RBIs and 25 runs scored. Pelesz was a second-team all-conference selection after batting .414 in 12 Empire 8 games with 12 hits, two home runs, 15 RBIs and nine runs scored. She had a 16-game hitting streak that began against Moravian at the NFCA Leadoff Classic and ended in the first game of a doubleheader against Utica. Pelesz went 2-for-4 with a home run and a career-high five RBIs in the second game of a doubleheader against Elmira. She went 3-for-6 with six RBI and three runs scored as the Bombers swept the Soaring Eagles. 2006: Pelesz stated all 47 games, batting .283 with 39 hits, 34 runs scored, 29 RBIs, 13 stolen bases in 14 attempts, five doubles, two triples and three homeruns. She had a .934 fielding percentage, playing primarily at third base, with 135 putouts and 50 assists. She was a first-team all-conference selection after batting .389 in 12 Empire 8 games. Stangarone had 14 hits with two doubles, three triples, nine RBI and 12 runs scored. Stangarone was named to the all-tournament team at the NCAA regional after batting .308 with two runs scored. 2006: Stangarone, a first-team Empire 8 all-star, started all 47 games at second base, batting .351 with 47 hits, 32 runs scored, 27 RBI and a team-leading 19 stolen bases. She also had a .969 fielding percentage with 98 putouts and 88 assists.
