NFL and Teams Participate in 17th Annual NFL-United Way Hometown Huddle Day of Service

2015 Marks 42nd Year of NFL-United Way Partnership

NFL coaches, players and executives will help members of their community PLAY 60 today during the 17th annual NFL-United Way Hometown Huddle league-wide day of service. Teams will build fitness zones and playgrounds, host youth football clinics and help kids get active for 60 minutes a day as part of NFL PLAY 60, the league’s youth health and wellness campaign.

Now in its 42nd year, the NFL-United Way partnership connects NFL PLAY 60 with United Way’s goal to get more young people healthy and active. United Way, which works in 1,200 communities across America, is creating healthier communities by increasing access to nutritious foods for families and increasing opportunities for physical exercise and play.

Designed to tackle childhood obesity, NFL PLAY 60 brings together the NFL’s long-standing commitment to health and wellness with partner organizations. PLAY 60 also is implemented locally, as part of the NFL's in- school, after-school and team-based programs. All 32 clubs activate PLAY 60 locally, with thousands of NFL PLAY 60 events held annually.

“For more than 40 years, our partnership with United Way has positively impacted our youngest fans,” said NFL senior vice president of social responsibility ANNA ISAACSON. “We are excited to encourage kids to stay active and live healthy lifestyles through our PLAY 60 campaign this year.”

Below is a snapshot of how teams are celebrating Hometown Huddle. New York-based NFL employees will join United Way volunteers and officials from the city of New York at a local school today to help transform outdoor play spaces. NFL employees in Culver City, Calif. will lead a PLAY 60 clinic and deliver health and wellness kits to a local school.

TEAM HOMETOWN HUDDLE ACTIVITIES Arizona The Cardinals Hometown Huddle event will feature the rebuilding of the Pioneer Preparatory School Cardinals playground. This past August the playground was set on fire and vandalized and the playground equipment can no longer be used by the students. Cardinals ownership, coaches, players and front office staff will participate in the playground rebuilding, encouraging Phoenix youth to get active for 60 minutes a day. Atlanta The Falcons and owner ARTHUR BLANK will participate in Hometown Huddle on October 20 as the Falcons team will have their 53-man roster, and alumni split into 12 different groups with each group visiting one location around metro Atlanta. Baltimore On October 12, the Ravens hosted its fourth annual Ravens TEAM Challenge at M&T Bank Stadium Ravens as part of the 2015 NFL/United Way Hometown Huddle. Approximately 110 local youth tested their physical endurance and ability to work as a team in order to complete various activities. Each student received a new pair of sneakers, provided by Under Armour. Ravens players, including WR KAMAR AIKEN, WR MARLON BROWN, DE LAWRENCE GUY, S ANTHONY LEVINE, SR., S KENDRICK LEWIS, and G/T , joined Ravens cheerleaders, mascot Poe and close to 70 volunteers (from the Lady Ravens Association, M&T Bank, Under Armour and United Way) in facilitating the activities and leading youth participants. Buffalo On October 12, the Bills Toyota Rookie Club joined the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County and the Bills American Dairy Association and Dairy Council (ADADC) to host 100 students from the Buffalo Public Schools at the ADPRO Sports Training Center for an NFL Flag Football Clinic in conjunction with the Fuel Up to PLAY 60 program. Carolina In celebration of Hometown Huddle, the Panthers will award PLAY 60 grants to schools and service Panthers organizations across North and South Carolina to support a variety of youth health and wellness programs including playground refurbishments, purchase of physical education equipment or interactive fitness installations. The team will also partner with the Southeast Dairy Association and the United Way of Central Carolinas to host a Day of Play on October 20 at a local elementary school. Over 500 students will participate in football drills and activity stations with Panthers players, dairy farmers and United Way volunteers. Chicago On Tuesday, October 27, the United Way of Lake County, the Bears and Bears Care will join together Bears for their Hometown Huddle event. The Bears and Bears Care are contributing $40,000 to help complete two outdoor projects at the Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) and the Zacharias Center. CAC serves child victims of abuse and the Zacharias Center serves sexual assault victims. Both of the agencies are located in Gurnee, Ill. and the Bears’ rookies will split up between the two locations to help finish the projects and present a check. Cincinnati The Bengals Hometown Huddle project took place on October 13 at William Howard Taft Elementary Bengals in Mt. Auburn. The club constructed: a new outdoor play structure; installed a new fence line to create a safe environment for the students; created a community garden; hand painted park benches and planters; and beautified the space with landscaping. The school did not have a playground for the students to get outside and enjoy outdoor playtime and physical activity. The Marvin Lewis Community Fund and the Bengals teamed with Baker Concrete Construction, Chemed, Christ Hospital, Cincinnati Rotary, Gametime, Interact for Health, Hilltop Basic Resources, United Way of Greater Cincinnati and several other companies along with a number of countless volunteers for this project. Cleveland The Browns and United Way of Greater Cleveland will join to install a new play area and Browns beautify the existing courtyard space at Dike School of the Arts in Cleveland on October 20th. Dike School of the Arts is located in Central Neighborhood of Cleveland, which is considered a largely poverty stricken area, and serves nearly 400 students, prek-6th grade. Volunteers will build the playground that will include a wave slide, leaf roof, cable climber, vertical ladder, rock wall climber, step climber, ADA transfer position, three step staircase and much more. Art murals will be installed in addition to mosaic benches, garden box planters, two arbors and a reading circle. In support of the Play 60 movement, 100 volunteers from the Browns and United Way and nearly 20 players, including Browns spokesman for United Way #53 CRAIG ROBERTSON, will join together through the Browns First and Ten volunteer movement for this project that will be enjoyed by hundreds of students and families in the inner city. #give10 Dallas The Cowboys will team up with the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas on October 20 to host their Cowboys annual Hometown Huddle event at Sanger Elementary School in Dallas. United Way volunteers, along with Cowboys mascot Rowdy and former Cowboys players BRADIE JAMES (linebacker, 2003 – 2011) and LARRY BROWN (cornerback, 1991 – 1995, 1998), will paint Fuel Up to Play 60 stencils on the school’s playground and lead students in an hour of flag football and PLAY 60 drills. Fuel Up to Play 60 stencils feature designs that incorporate nutritional messaging as well as games that gets kids up and moving. Denver On November 2, the Broncos will host a big PLAY 60 event with more than 300 kids from all branches Broncos of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver at the UCHealth Training Facility. Playworks Colorado will run Play 60 activity stations with assistance from Broncos players. All kids in attendance will receive a healthy dinner at the conclusion of the event. Detroit The Lions will bring 30 students from the city of Detroit to the Detroit Eastern Market to participate in Lions PLAY 60 activities with Playworks Detroit, Lions players and alumni on October 27. There will be a Q&A with the players, a tour and a shopping experience in the market. Students will also enjoy a healthy lunch and hear from the Lions Executive Chef Joe Nader about nutrition. Green Bay Working with volunteers from the United Way of Brown County, the Packers with funds provided Packers through the NFL Partnership Grants will build a playground at Shippy Park in Pulaski, Wis. to encourage youth to get out and be active in the local community on October 27. Houston The Texans are partnering with Special Olympics of Texas and the United Way for Hometown Huddle Texans on October 20 at the YMCA. The Texans will host a Flag Football Camp for 100 Special Olympics athletes as a way to help further their flag football skills for future Special Olympics games. The Texans rookie class will help at the various stations along with volunteers from the United Way and coaches from Special Olympics of Texas. Houston Texans Cheerleaders will be in attendance to help cheer them on. At the end of the day, athletes will compete in a 40-yard dash race with the fastest camper receiving an award from the Texans. All participants will receive certificates of completion and have their photo taken with Texans players. Indianapolis The Colts and United Way of Central Indiana have teamed up with Indiana Wesleyan University to Colts renovate a fitness room at the Riverside Park and Family Center. The Colts-themed fitness room will be used by hundreds of youth each week, providing them with a fun place to be active indoors. The renovation project includes new flooring and paint, new fitness equipment, three fitness stations and Colts-themed decorations. Colts punter PAT McAFEE will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new room on October 20 as a part of the team’s Hometown Huddle event. Jacksonville On November 3, the Jaguars are partnering with the United Way of Northeast Florida, inviting Jaguars students to participate in the United Way Achievers for Life program. The event will have 150-200 students participate in a field day with a number of Jaguars players on Ray Green field. Ray Green Field is a local football field that the NFL, City of Jacksonville and the Jaguars partnered to refurbish though the NFL's Youth Football Field Grant. Kansas City On October 20, the Chiefs and United Way of Greater Kansas City will host the 10th annual Chiefs Chiefs TeamSmile event at the Scout Investments Club Level inside of Arrowhead Stadium. The goal of this outreach initiative, held as part of Kansas City Oral Health Care Day, is to promote dental wellbeing to area children. Nearly 300 Title I eligible youth will be treated as a result of the program, receiving dental screenings and procedures in addition the opportunity to participate in PLAY 60 activity stations and to obtain life-skill education. This event typically provides complementary services in excess of $135,000 in value. Chiefs P DUSTIN COLQUITT will serve as the event’s spokesperson for the ninth season and he will be joined on-site by teammates, Chiefs Cheerleaders and mascot KC Wolf. Miami In partnership with United Way, the Dolphins will host a Gatorade Junior Training Camp for children Dolphins with special needs on October 20. Kids will decorate cards for women currently receiving treatment for breast cancer. Minnesota The Vikings will host approximately 150 kids from local youth organizations: ACES (Athletes Vikings Committed to Educating Students), North Minneapolis YMCA and Model Cities. The event will take place at the Vikings indoor facility on October 20 where Vikings players will be in attendance to take part in a character development lesson and run though drills with the kids. New England On October 20, the Kraft family and Charitable Foundation will team with the Patriots United Way to help provide a new adventure playground to the Dr. Catherine Ellison Rosa Parks Early Education School in Mattapan, Mass. Patriots players will volunteer alongside United Way volunteers to provide renovations, including a gaga pit, new storage areas, playground equipment and more. The players will have an opportunity to participate in games alongside the children in their new play space. New Orleans The Saints will create and enhance two areas of Andrew Wilson Charter School in New Orleans, La. Saints One area will be transformed into an indoor Youth Fitness Zone with Saints-branded hydraulic fitness machines, water rowers, treadmills, and aerodynamic bikes. Also provided will be a portable television stand with a new television, XBOX Kinect gaming console, and fitness-inspired video games. The second room will be a creative arts room with a laptop station, camcorder, and other educational software and games to enhance the students’ digital media capabilities. Both rooms will be revitalized with Saints décor and furnishings. Saints players, Saintsations and staff will be in attendance to help engage the youth in their new fitness zones and teach them how to use the equipment properly. The kids will also enjoy taking part in Saints Junior Training Camp drills with the team mascot as well. New York The Giants will host their Hometown Huddle event on October 27. The team will be surprising Giants students at Roy W. Brown School with brand new fitness equipment for their physical education classes, including Wii Fit heart rate monitors and activity trackers. New York The Jets and United Way of Northern New Jersey have teamed up to contribute $50,000 to install a Jets PLAY 60 Fitness Zone playground at Dover Middle School in Dover, NJ. The Jets 2015 Rookie Class will put the finishing touches on the PLAY 60 Fitness Zone playground and take 40 children through fitness activities on the new equipment. Oakland The Raiders participated in the 17th Annual United Way Hometown Huddle on October 19. Their Raiders players gave a message about the importance of a healthy body and mind, and then led the students through a series of engaging exercises. United Way of the Bay Area’s local ambassador, Raiders Pro Bowl fullback MARCEL REECE played a primary role in the Hometown Huddle service event at Bella Vista Elementary School in Oakland. Marcel spoke to the elementary students about the importance of staying healthy and active. He shared his own stories as well as engaged the students to encourage them to live and prepare for a healthy life. Marcel was joined by several of his teammates including OL KHALIF BARNES, DT , LB JIMMY HALL, CB DJ HAYDEN, LB BEN HEENEY, T AUSTIN HOWARD, RB TAIWAN JONES, RB , FB JAMIZE OLAWALE and G J'MARCUS WEBB, who then led the student in a Raiders youth football clinic. The emphasis was on making exercise and healthy lifestyle a lifetime focus. Philadelphia The Eagles organization in conjunction with United Way will present Northern Children’s Services with Eagles a $25,000 check and provide them with new painted lines on their athletic field on October 20. Eagles players will also be in attendance. Pittsburgh On October 20, the Steelers will team with United Way of Allegheny County to exercise with students. Steelers Players, including United Way spokesman DE CAMERON HEYWARD, will surprise students at Pittsburgh Schiller 6-8 to celebrate their attendance. These students will have a chance to exercise alongside the players, learning about the importance of health and wellness as a part of their success. San Diego The Chargers will host their Kids News Day event. Chargers players and the Charger Girls will be out Chargers on the busy corner of Friars and Frazee selling newspapers to benefit the Rady Children’s Hospital on October 20. San Francisco The 49ers will collaborate with UnitedHealthcare to construct an innovative indoor health and fitness 49ers room for the students at a local middle school. The indoor fitness zone will provide a venue to inspire students to become physically fit while sports performance assessment equipment will allow students to measure their athletic performance ability while also learning the science behind how exercise affects their health and wellness. In addition, the 49ers along with UnitedHealthcare will conduct a “Health and Fitness” assembly for 40 students. The event will include the following components: installation of equipment; fitness classroom clean up and finishing touches as needed; health and wellness event; and students using the new fitness classroom. Seattle On October 13, the Seahawks and United Way of King County hosted their Hometown Huddle at Seahawks Dunlap Elementary. Seahawks players, Sea Gals, Mascot Boom, staff and volunteers were in attendance and interacted with kids at NFL PLAY 60 activity stations. The group also prepared gardens, updated the outdoor playground space, made individual classroom visits and launched United Way’s “Fuel Your Future” program. Additional partners included PCL Construction, Seattle Tilth and Xome. St. Louis On October 22, the Rams will host their annual Hometown Huddle for 150 kids at the O’Fallon Park Rams YMCA. The kids will participate in various PLAY 60 activity stations with Rams players, cheerleaders, Rampage and staff. Tampa Bay On October 27, the Buccaneers will partner with United Way Suncoast and City of Tampa to perform a Buccaneers major renovation of the Jackson Heights NFL YET Center. The entire Buccaneers front office will participate in the renovation, which includes painting, landscaping, dance/fitness room upgrades and interacting with the youth attending the recreation center. More than $50,000 in renovations will be performed at Jackson Heights NFL YET Center, along with the announcement of a $200,000 NFL Foundation/LISC Grant to support installation of a synthetic turf football field. Tennessee The Titans will partner with United Way of Metro Nashville to bring 70 children from their Family Titans Resource Centers to the practice facility for a PLAY 60 event on October 20. During the event, children will rotate through six activity stations, as well as a nutrition station. Titans players will be on hand to coach participants through each station, in addition to serving as quarterbacks for the flag football games. Washington With the help of national non-profit KaBOOM!, Bender Foundation Inc., the Washington Redskins Redskins Charitable Foundation and United Way of the National Capital Area are partnering with Southern Avenue Associates and Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund to build a new playground for the kids of Oxon Hill, Md. On October 24, the build will occur at Southern Marketplace in Oxon Hill, Md. From 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in conjunction with the team’s annual Alumni Homecoming Weekend for 2015. More than 50 Redskins Alumni, spanning all three Champion teams, are expected to participate in the build, which has been themed around the NFL’s On the Fifty Super Bowl campaign.
