On October 7 and 8, 2014, Lincoln Center’s White Light Festival will present Sir Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker in Peter Sellars’s staged production of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, one of the masterworks of Western sacred music. For these extraordinary performances, a stage and seating installation modeled on the 1500-seat Berliner Philharmoniker concert hall will be constructed inside the Park Avenue Armory’s Drill Hall. It was the unique configuration of the Philharmonie, where the audience surrounds the performers on all sides, that inspired Sellars’s deeply moving production, which he terms a “ritualization.” Performed initially at the 2010 Salzburg Easter Festival, it then was part of the hall’s 50th anniversary celebration.

You can help support this production by joining our Producers Circle groups. For more information, please contact Kristel Kempin at 212.875.5236 or [email protected].
