The Mid--Summer Classic will come to town July 13-15 and will showcase the top prospects in the Eastern League. This is the first time the Southern Tier has played host to the annual festivities since 1994 (then the Double-A All-Star Game). It is the first-time the city has hosted the Eastern League classic.. "The City of Binghamton is excited to welcome baseball fans from across the league to our backyard and play host to the 2020 Eastern League All-Star Game," said Mayor Richard David. "For the last few years, Binghamton has been in the midst of a resurgence, with new businesses filling once-vacant storefronts, old buildings given new life in redevelopment, and downtown streets bustling with more and more activity. The Rumble Ponies have contributed greatly to this resurgence, and we are excited to host a major event the entire community can rally around." The Rumble Ponies teamed up with their fans in a “#BingItHome” social media campaign in the summer of 2017 to convince the Eastern League to award Binghamton the rights to host the 2020 Eastern League All-Star Game. On August 3, 2017 the city of Binghamton was officially awarded the event. HISTORY FRANCHISE FRANCHISE RECORDS FRANCHISE EASTERN LEAGUE EASTERN 2020 BINGHAMTON RUMBLE PONIES MEDIA GUIDE 6 While professional baseball in Binghamton, NY, dates back to 1877, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies’ story begins in 1992. It was that year that the New York Mets organization moved their Double-A affiliate, the Bills, from Williamsport, Pennsylvania, approximately 125 miles northeast to Binghamton. The team was renamed the Binghamton Mets and was welcomed with open arms by a city that had suffered 23 years without a professional baseball team to call their own. When tickets went on sale for the inaugural season, thousands of fans braved the rain and waited in a line that snaked for blocks through the city. RUMBLEPONIES Binghamton Municipal Stadium was constructed in nine months for $4.6 million and hosted its first B- Mets game on April 19, 1992 after three-straight postponed games. Binghamton’s house-warming party was a strong one as they defeated the Harris- burg Senators 1-0 in front of 5,126 fans. Led by Eastern League Manager of the Year, Steve Swisher, the B-Mets treated their fans to a stellar inaugural season. They went 79-59, finished 2nd in the Eastern League, and earned a trip to the postsea- son. The B-Mets dispatched the Harrisburg Senators in the semi-finals in four games, winning a 14-inning marathon to clinch the series. B-Mets celebrate 1992 title with Binghamton Mayor Juanita Crabb In the Eastern League Championship Series, the B-Mets trailed the Canton-Akron Indians 2-1 before they rallied to take Game 4 and ultimately earned their first title with a 5-2 win in the decisive fifth game.

Play began with the Mesa Solar Sox visiting the Glendale Desert Dogs and the Peoria Javelinas hosting the Surprise Saguaros. Glendale features the highest-rated prospect in the league, Phillies shortstop J.P. Crawford (No. 5 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 list), and Minor League home run leader A.J. Reed (Astros). Mesa counters with a top shortstop prospect of its own in Daniel Robertson (Rays), who batted .301 for the Solar Sox last fall. Surprise's lineup is powered by outfielders Brett Phillips (Brewers) and Lewis Brinson (Rangers). Peoria boasts a pair of former first-round picks in shortstop Alex Blandino (Cardinals) and corner infielder D.J. Peterson (Mariners). The first night game of the season featured the Scottsdale Scorpions at the crosstown Salt River Rafters, the AFL's defending champions.
