From Our Pastor As the new Liturgical Season of Lent is fast approaching, I want to share with you two upcoming staffing changes here at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. After much prayer, listening and reflection, I have come to the conclusion that our Youth Ministry and youth outreach, need to move in a new direction. Our existing program tends to follow a more “Youth Group” model, and while this has been a great blessing to some, I strongly feel we need a broader, multifaceted “Youth Ministry Discipleship” model. To assist us on this path, in the weeks ahead we will begin a search for a new DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRY (DYM). On behalf of all of us here at Seton Lake Ridge, I want to express our deepest gratitude for the tireless efforts of our current DIRECTOR, KATHY LORD. During these past eleven plus years, her commitment and dedication to our youth has been truly remarkable. I have no doubt that our good Lord will use her many gifts and talents to benefit the Church in new and important ways. Kathy’s last day in the position will be Friday, February 28th.

During the search and interview process for a new director, we will be pausing all Youth Ministry activities with the exception of our Lenten Alms Giving Fundraiser Board and our Lenten Youth Night of Music and Adoration that begins with the 6:30 p.m. Mass on Sunday, March 15th. Our June 2020 Youth WorkCamp and July 2020 Steubenville trips will also take place this summer as planned. During this time I will be consulting with the youth of our parish, along with their parents, as we seek to lay seeds in the formation of a YOUTH LEADERSHIP CORE TEAM, along with an ADULT YOUTH MINISTER CORE TEAM. If you, or someone you know, is interested in possibly serving in this capacity, or might be interested in the DYM position, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected]. I welcome any ideas or suggestions on how we can build a stronger Youth Ministry Program here in our parish, along with your prayers for this effort and all involved.

I am also pleased to announce that CARTER STEPHENS, our current PRINCIPAL KEYBOARDIST will be taking on the added responsibilities of becoming ASSISTANT MUSIC DIRECTOR, effective, Saturday, February 29th. Carter will begin playing at the Saturday Vigil Mass, so we bid a ‘temporary’ farewell, along with our deep gratitude to JANET MUNFORD who is also the Music Coordinator at our neighboring parish of Holy Family. Janet has so faithfully, and beautifully played for us at Mass on most Saturday evenings. Her last regular Mass with us will be on February 15th. I mention ‘temporary’ because, no doubt we will be seeking her talents to fill in whenever she is available. May our good Lord continue to bless us all ~ Fr. Bashista Weekly Reflection Love Is Not an Ideology

Many people, believers and nonbelievers alike, are aware that love is the only transforming power in the world. But they believe in love the way they believe in democracy. The love we Christians profess is not an ideology. Saint John writes in his first letter: “We have known and believe the love that God has for us” (4:16). This love is a personal relationship. We don’t believe the world is changed by ethical principles, however noble these may be. The Apostles’ Creed consists of twelve fundamental pronouncements about God’s love for humankind. All of the Scriptures, all of Christian theology, is nothing but an explanation of this love. Through faith, you know you are loved by God with a creative, respectful, unique, and personal love. God calls you by name. God knows your joys and disappointments, your weaknesses and strengths, hopes and feelings. “You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways…. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me” (Ps 139:3, 5). The hardest thing for a human being is to comprehend that he or she is loved by such a love. Your whole life, every hour of prayer, all your spiritual reading, ought to deal with making this truth come alive in you. If you know yourself to be loved, you will radiate this love to the world. 2020 Bishop's Lenten Appeal Weekend—February 22nd/23rd The BLA Commitment Weekend is next weekend!

Once a year we are asked to make a commitment to support the work of our diocesan programs and ministries which provide services that no single parish could provide on its own. This important effort is a means by which we work together, sharing the gifts God has bestowed upon us. Our parish goal is 100% participation. Through the BLA, may we seek to imitate the steadfast faith of the Blessed Virgin Mary and joyfully reveal our gratitude for our many blessings!

Together, through the BLA, let us renew our personal commitment to furthering the Lord's work in our diocese.
