It is an ideal starting-off point for summer and winter hikes to the Vsetín Hills and the mas- sif, Radhošť. These mountains have many hiking fans, both in summer and in winter. Above all there is the mountain Radhošť (1129m above sea level), where, accord- ing to legend, the pagan god of the sun and war, but also of hospitality and fertility, Radegast, lived. The path from Pustevny passes the statue of Radegast. At Pustevny one can f ind exeptional wooden buildings in the style of Folk Art Nouveau – the buildings Maměnka and Libuše – designed by the architect Dušan Jurkovič. You can also f ind in the Vsetín area wooden buildings typical of Wallachia. You will f ind them in the newest town in the region, Karolinka and in almost every village in the Vsetín region.  Jasenice is a part of the village of Lešna, which is worth visiting for its classicist castle. From its origin as a moated fortress, it was rebuilt in 1887 by the last owner of the estate, the Count Kinský. At present, work is under way, restoring the interior so that it can be opened again. The castle is set in seven hectares of English parkland with a wide range of unusual trees. The nearby small village of Vysoká also belongs to Lešná. The hill here, Slaná voda (Salt Water) offers a wonderful panoramic view of the Moravian Beskyds, Kelčský Javorník and the Hostýn, Vsetín and Odry Hills.

Exploring in the north  To the northeast is the part of Valašské Meziříčí, Krhová, which has been known as a spa since 1746. There is a spring here of ferrous-sulphuric water and in 1861 it was established as a spa (Wittigsbad), where during therapy pine needles were used as part of the cure. You can have a pleasant walk and visit the popular nearby well, Jarošovka.

 Leaving the town northwards, we arrive at Jasenice, where a protected tree stands – an oak whose trunk has a girth of 343 centimetres. In the 18th and 19th cen- turies iron-ore and chalk were mined here, so on the eastern side of the village you can now f ind a protected flooded quarry, Vápenka (Lime-Kiln), where there are fresh- water crayf ish and freshwater mussels.

Exploring the east  If you go east towards Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, you arrive at Zašová, well- known place of pilgrimage of the Virgin Mary. In the upper part of the village in the Stračka valley there is a spring of high-quality drinking water. The legend connected to the spring is of a knight seri- ously wounded during the Tatar invasion during the middle ages, miraculously saved by the Virgin Mary. A statue of the Virgin Mary of Lourdes was built into the wall above the spring, which was later replaced by a statue of the Virgin Mary of Zašová. Many pilgrims still come from all around, and several times a year divine services are held here. The most important holy day is the traditional Zašová Fair, which has taken place every year after the holiday of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, at least since 1672. It is certainly worth visiting the baroque pilgrim church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary with its unique arch with two towers, built from 1714 to 1725. The centuries-old tradition of crochet-work still survives in Zašová; “Zašovské kytičky” is an ethnographical term. 1)
