Mark of Quality D’ Cosmos Residences is a brand-new residential development by EXSIM Group, strategically located within an exciting emerging integrated development close to prime Petaling Jaya neighborhoods. EXSIMLIFE learns more about this contemporary residences from the experts behind the project.

A dynamic new address is rising in North Petaling Jaya. EXSIM Group is shaping a 65-acre integrated development in Damansara Perdana that encompasses affordable serviced apartments like D’Quince Residences, D’Vervain Residences, serviced suites, premium serviced apartments, corporate office towers, commercial retail area and a proposed leisure water park. The latest addition to this hub is D’Cosmos Residences, a lower density, 39-storey condominium tower with just 402 units. The spacious 1,100 sq ft and 4 bedrooms units make this an ideal choice for young and growing families who desire quality living, a touch of exclusivity and privacy. EXSIMLIFE sits down with project architect Ar. Tan Chee Khoon of Tan’ck Architect, landscape architect LAr. Ho Peng Ming from HODA Design, Tan’ck Architect collaborated with Alan and Vienna from Millimetre Design on the interior design. These experts shared the inspiration and concept for D’Cosmos Residences and how they brought their ideas to life.

EXSIMLIFE (EL) _ Ar. Tan Chee Khoon, tell us about the inspirations behind D’Cosmos Residences? Ar. Tan Chee Khoon (TCK) | D’Cosmos Residences derives its character from the patterns of woven textile, namely the basket weave. The biaxial elements of the façade emulate the horizontal and vertical strands that form the weaving pattern. The philosophy of the art of weaving relates to comprehending and appreciating the workings of the universe, consisting of threads and strands interlacing harmoniously in time and space. This resonates strongly with the development’s name D’Cosmos Residences, where cosmos means the universe. Coincidentally, it is also the name of a type of sunflower plant that symbolizes harmony.

_ How the idea reflected in the development? TCK | In its full essence, the inspiration of the weaving pattern is reflected on the building façade. Vertical fins and horizontal ledges protrude from the tower in a formulaic pattern. The lower portion of the building, which is the carpark podium, takes on different elements yet maintain consistency with the weaving concept. The additional elements of ventilation block panels and vertical green Tan’ck Architect walls are in line with the concept (of weaving) while injecting vibrancy. This was further accentuated by a subtle color scheme of Ar. Tan Chee Khoon greys, playing with light and dark tones that exude elegance. This classic palette is timeless and presents the development as a contemporary residence relevant to prospective young homeowners. PROPERTY HIGHLIGHTS MARK OF QUALITY —————— 08

_ LAr. Ho Peng Ming, how you interpret the architectural concept in the Artist’s Impression landscaping? LAr. Ho Peng Ming (HPM) | The landscape concept of the D’Cosmos Residences is designed to reflect the idea of ‘garden home’ and ‘slow life’. The landscape spaces we craft are an extension of homes which provide recreation and relaxation within nature. The design provides the seamless boundary between external and internal spaces as an experience of the landscaping journey.

_What technique do you use to translate the idea into functional design? LEVEL 8 | HAMMOCK HAVEN HPM | We implemented an urban forest setting as our planting strategy, where a series of tall trees and shrubs form organic layers of shade for residents to stroll Artist’s Impression under leisurely while offsetting noise and pollution. We also introduced a green façade to mitigate heat from penetrating the building and minimize the glaring impact from the surrounding environment. Building on the ‘garden home’ concept, we promote seamless boundaries between external and internal spaces. For example, Callistemon Gold with their golden leaves surround the development on the ground floor, creating a sense of Hoda Design welcome. For the facilities floor, the Caesalpinia Ferra planted along the lush LAr. Ho Peng Ming walkway provides surprisingly dense shade. The Viewing Cottage features a covered garden setting for gatherings while Frangipani trees are the focal point at the swimming pool area, complementing the sense of tranquility. GROUND FLOOR | LOBBY LOUNGE

_ Tan’ck Architect collaborated with Millimetre Design on the interiors. Alan, Artist’s Impression how did you and Vienna incorporate the architectural concept? Alan & Vienna (A&V) | We stayed true to the overall modern, contemporary look of the architectural façade design, working from outside-in to extend the main idea. Naturally, we used the same greyish color scheme, vertical and rectilinear forms into the common area design. This gives D’Cosmos Residences an elegant atmosphere that brings timeless aesthetic value. The ideas and inspirations mainly derived from creating a suitable design for a family-oriented living environment. Mark of Quality The design considerations for the common areas and facilities are focused on durability, sustainability and ease in maintenance. In this regard, the efficiency of the gridline design principles had, in fact, enabled a greater practical use of space. GROUND FLOOR | VIEWING COTTAGE

_Share with us the coherence between the interiors and Artist’s Impression overall design. A&V | The soul of the design is in the grid line basis. The ‘running bond’ grid line are repetitive from the exterior into the interior as one design concept. We applied a variation of line patterns to the floor, wall and ceiling. Marble-like wall surfaces lend a touch of elegant minimalism while the vertical gridline extension in grey panels – extending from ground to ceiling level – further enhances the interior’s sense of height Millimetre Design and space. We even creatively camouflaged some entrance access using this panel Vienna design to create a flat feature wall design. In addition, the subtle colour scheme (greyish tone) together with the neutral wood surfaces combine to achieve an atmosphere of LEVEL 8 | VITALITY GYM coziness.

_ Ar. Tan, what sets this development apart from others? TCK | Its mindful design in terms of massing form and façade reinforces its stand as an exclusive and premium choice of residence. It also features a three-tier facility design which accommodates landscaping, hardscaping and residential amenities for the enjoyment of residents. I feel D’Cosmos Residences truly demonstrates affordability coupled with the quality of spaces.

_ Thank you Ar. Tan Chee Khoon, LAr. Ho Peng Ming, Alan and Vienna for your time. D’Cosmos Residences will indeed be a prized addition to the integrated development and to the fabric of the Millimetre Design North Petaling Jaya area. Alan

EXSIMLIFE (EL): Ar. Hanc Wang and Zeng Tan, as the architects for The Rosewoodz @ Bukit Jalil, please tell us about inspiration and the concept for this development. WDA Architects (WDA) __ As its name suggests, we took inspiration from the unique character of a rosewood tree. Appearing as a simple yet hardy tree in the wilderness, the rosewood tree is truly exceptional when it is in bloom. We envisioned The Rosewoodz @ Bukit Jalil to be the same – a focal point like its namesake. We visualized the development as an art piece alive with energy, much like the rare and valuable rosewood tree. The idea was to create something simple yet distinctive that would add value to the urban outlook, a timeless abode for people. How are these ideas reflected in the development? WDA __ We use simple form and clean lines, and imbue the building with warm colors and tones, to create the impression of the lush red core of a rosewood tree. Aiming to push boundaries, we limit the use of material to only a single type where possible; concrete is chosen as it is ideal to actualize the inspirations. In addition, the playful arrangement of fins on the façade of the building contributes to variation of units and views throughout the WDA Architects development. These features all tie back to the hidden qualities of the rosewood tree, a gem within that may be missed Ar. Hanc Wang Zeng Tan or unseen at a quick glance. Let’s the team from Motto Designs – Lau Wei Ket, Serene Loo, Celine Teo and Ethan Kek tell us how the concept is translated in the interiors? Motto Designs (MD) __ Our scope covered the common areas as well as facilities area such as Sky Fit, Sky Dining, Sky Party Pavilion and Sky Sports Arena. The challenge for us was to bring to life the idea of the rosewood tree through creative use of design elements like colour, shapes and materials. In line with this, we played with dusty rose balanced with grey. The first embodies enthusiasm and passion while the latter is an interpretation of timelessness and sophistication. This is further expressed in the mix use of soft and rough textures and finishes in the selection of materials. Motto Designs Lau Wei Ket Serene Loo As a result, the overall ambience echoes the concept of uncovering the hidden qualities of the rosewood tree. For example, spray tiles, mild steel structures and stone finished floor tiles are softened with curved or rounded arches or edges on architectural structures. Touches of rose gold steel cladding are used to highlight finer details. Is there a particular area need to most attention? MD __ We hope purchasers and residents will appreciate the Main Drop-off and Lobby Lounge. While staying true to the main concept, we also wanted to inject a bold, urban vibe here, particularly that of a high-end Parisian fashion avenue. At the Main Drop-off, concrete pavers to be laid in a diagonal (diamond) pattern will be paired with suspended rose gold perforated panels ceiling structure uplift by spotlights to create the effect of a skylight roof structure. This leads to the Celine Teo Ethan Kek Lobby Lounge, which is modelled after the idea of a retail shopfront, makes a bold statement as it delivers a similar experience to that of entering a high-end fashion retail outlet.

Landscaping plays an integral role in completing the vision for The Rosewoodz @ Bukit Jalil. LAr. Phua Chin Eng, what was your approach? Landart Design (LD) __ We collaborated closely with the architect to compliment the concept of simple form and clean lines with a twist of boldness characterized by red. Exploring flowering trees with similar architectural forms, we came across the Moulmein Rosewood and became captivated by its passionate pink flowers which became the theme for the development. At the same time, the site is surrounded by a row of deciduous pink flowering trees which bathes the neighborhood in rosy pink flowers three times a year. We wanted to embed the same breathtaking vivacity into the development. We envisioned intricate composition of uplifting spaces within the development. We want to re-establish natural habitats by replanting trees to encourage the return of birds and other small fauna that will complement and enhance the beauty of the various flora. The use of appropriate hardscape materials will also help pave the way towards creating an extravagant experience through nature. How you translate the ideas into the landscaping concept? As the landscaped facilities are categorized into three aspects – The Pith, The Bloom and The Spring – each hosts a specific planting concept. The Pith is the essence of a living thing, also the core of a tree representing strength, solidity and substance. We chose the Siamese Rosewood, a valuable hardwood, to be planted at the Rosewood Linear Garden. This species is listed as ‘threatened’ hence this is part of our conservation contribution. Aesthetically, its evergreen canopy will be a perfect contrast against the bold red façade. Rows of Crimson Fountaingrass represent the red hardwood veins of the rosewood tree. Landart Design The Bloom captures the vivid hues of passion and verve from the boldest to the daintiest blossoms, exuding intimacy, delight and LAr. Phua Chin Eng joy. Across the BBQ Tavern, Kid's Coral Red Pool and the Passion Pool, a blanket of red coloured flowers and foliage are introduced into the space intensifying the sense of a blooming flower and passionate joy. Among our selections are the Malayan Crape Myrtle, Crimson Fountaingrass, Wild Petunia and Red Passion Flower. Finally, The Spring represents renewal, rebirth and rejuvenation as well as the source of life and growth. Rosebay Garden offers a sense of freshness by focusing on evergreen plants like Slender Lady Palm and East Indian Rosebay with simple white rose alike flowering plants to sooth the ambiance of the outdoor dwelling place with a hint of redness indicating the source of life. Thank you for sharing the ideas and nuances behind The Rosewoodz @ Bukit Jalil. We look forward to seeing this pièce de résistance in its full, complete form!
