2019 nouveau sonoma coast

VINEYARD The fruit for the 2019 Sonoma Coast Nouveau is sourced from two cool-climate sites in Sonoma County: West Block in Petaluma Gap and Home Block in Carneros.

Planted in the early-90’s to the Joseph Phelps clone of Syrah, West Block is oriented east-west allowing even ripening during the long, extended growing season. The close proximity to the San Pablo Bay create a maritime climate that further accentuates the cool climate for Petaluma. The soils are derived from decomposed sandstone and shale, adding intense minerality and complexity.

Home Block is a small vineyard off Adobe Road in Petaluma. Riddled with sandstone and shale, the Pinot Noir coming off this site adds freshness and bright red fruit to the blend, a hallmark for our Sonoma Coast Nouveau.

VINTAGE The 2019 was a classic Northern California vintage. Ample rains in the spring alleviated drought concerns and allowed for a wonderful start to the . A warm, late summer, followed by a cooling trend created ideal ripening conditions. 2019 was an excellent vintage that made with great structure.

WINEMAKING Our Sonoma Coast Nouveau is produced in the typical method: carbonic . All fruit is loaded into a

tank saturated in CO2 and closed air tight once filled. From there, the fruit will gentle warm naturally by way of the heat evolved during the fermentation, with the fruit fermenting intercellularly, creating the prototypical bright red fruit flavors and immense freshness.

WINE Our 2019 Sonoma Coast Nouveau is comprised of 51% Syrah from West Block in Petaluma Gap and 49% Pinot Noir from Home TECHNICAL NOTES: Block in Sonoma Coast. Produced by way of a ten day , this has a vivacious intensity on the nose and Blend: 51% Syrah, 49% Pinot Noir lively fresh palate: juicy peppered strawberry, ripe plum, and fresh AVA: Sonoma Coast violet, overlaid with notes of bay laurel, juniper and lavender.
