The applied part of various schemes of employment generation, poverty alleviation has been critically studied. The research topics ranged from environmental issues to financial sector as well as human resource. The finding of researches has helped in generating new Knowledge.

The weaknesses of department are as follows- 1. Lack of Regular Teachers 2. Dependence on floating guest faculty. 3. Majority students are from Kashmir who are not interested in local issues. 4. Low Co-ordination between traditional (M.A. Economics) and self financing (MBA - Business Economics) programme. Opportunities of the department are as follows- 1. Present need of economist in industry, Banking and Finance sector 2. Centrally located University and are of the few Universities teaching Business Economics

Challenges to be faced by department are as follows- The department has to face various challenges which are academic and otherwise. The economy is dynamic in which situation in changing. In changing economic scenario department has to keep pace with it.

The Department proposes to consolidate on teaching and research. Further interaction with various industries is being proposed. Initially lectures will be arranged of prominent entrepreneur and bankers etc in the department and courses will be modified as per need of time.
