THE 2016 SEASON

USC’s young cross country team under the leadership of fourth-year coach David Freeman was led by sophomores Amber Gore, Sophia Racette and Madison Ricks. Injuries curtailed the potential success of the team as Ricks went down with an injury early in the season and top returner junior Rebekah Ent was slow to return from a late summer injury.

Gore and Racette represented USC with a solid outing at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento, Calif. Ricks (1) or Racette (5) were USC's top fi nisher at every meet, while Gore was a picture of consis- tency as the Trojans' second-place fi nisher at ever meet.

USC won the season-opening Pepperdine Invitational on Sept. 1 led by a Ricks' win and Gore's fourth-place fi nish. It was USC's fi rst meet win since defeating UCLA in a dual meet in 2014.

With nine of the athletes on the roster being freshmen or sophomore, the Trojans seem to have developed a strong foundation upon which to build for the future.

The team also excelled in the classroom once again.

Katherine B. Loker Stadium was made possible by a generous donation from Katherine B. Loker. The 3,000-seat stadium opened in the 2001 season and was dedicated on May 5 during that year's USC-UCLA dual meet. The track and stadium underwent renovations this past winter. The facility includes track offi ces, locker rooms, an athlete lounge and meeting rooms. Loker stadium hosted the 2003 Pac-10 Championships, the fi rst time a conference meet had ever been held on the USC campus. USC also hosted the 2013 Pac-10 Championships.
