❀ 1 ❀ 17 - 29 July 57th Exhibition Competition of Aosta Valley Traditional Craft The event was devised in 1954 just for sculptors. Twenty years later, participation Aosta (Piazza Chanoux) Opening times: 10.00 hrs – 23.00 hrs in the competition was broadened out to include other Aosta Valley craft sectors: carving, sculpture, woodturning, farm objects, basketry, wooden fl owers, miniature constructions, leatherwork, wrought iron, stone, games, furniture, costumes, traditional footwear, pottery, copper, glass, gold and silver as well as other age-old craft traditions promoted and protected by the Regional Authority. Every year the Regional Authority proposes a theme for each individual category, requiring the participants to produce a specifi c object. Each artisan presents their work with their own research and interpretation of the proposed subject. Each evening you can watch demonstrations of the various techniques used.

Sculture live The wonder of watching a sculpture Aosta – Public Gardens being created live!!! This year, for the fi rst time, there is a free photographic portfolio competition: “Sculpture live in 5 photos”. The purpose is to invite those photographers taking part to capture the sculptor’s work in 5 photos, from the material to the fi nished work. “L’Atelier” is the place where Aosta Valley businesses have transformed their craft passion into an actual profession in order to demonstrate the quality of their production. There will be a display and sale of sculptures, games, household objects, turned and carved wood, furniture, natural stone stoves, textiles and pillow lace from Cogne, woollen textiles from Valgrisenche, hemp from Champorcher, traditional footwear from Valle di Lys, leather and woollen clothing accessories, traditional costumes and pottery, copper, glass, gold and silver. The craft workers will be there, in their exhibition spaces at the Atelier, to meet visitors in person and to demonstrate, during set hours, various work techniques and traditional skills conserved by them.

❀ 8 ❀ ❀ 9 ❀ La Foire d’Eté was started in 1969 and is regarded as the “summer sister” of the thousand- year-old Saint Orso Fair.
