TRAVEL ADVISORIES While Disney on Ice Presents Road Trip Adventures takes over the Wells Fargo Center, the Flyers are headed on their own customary road trip adventure between Christmas and New Year’s. Over the course of 41 years since hosting the New York Rangers on December 28, 1978, the Flyers have only played one home game between those holidays – on Dec. 27, 2007 vs. Toronto, a year where their trip ran from Dec. 29 – Jan. 8. Although the trip was not a consistent yearly staple prior to 1978, the Flyers still only played 10 home games between the holidays in their first 10 seasons, including three of the four times the club has ever played on Christmas. They have taken a road trip of at least three games around the turn of the calendar in every season since 1979-80, excluding the three seasons where the league was not in action in December.

Here is how the Flyers have fared on their holiday road swing in recent years. (For purposes of tracking these stretches, the trip is considered to be any stretch of consecutive road games between the dates of Dec. 19 and Jan. 7 in a given season. Cities are listed in order of schedule. Bolded opponents are wins, italics are OT/SOL)

This year’s trip (SJS, ANA, LAK, VGK, ARI, CAR) will cover 5,527 air miles based on calculations from WebFlyer.net and does not include the 30 miles between Honda Center and Staples Center. Calculations from other sites may vary.

NOTES OF THE NIGHT

The Flyers reached the halfway point of their season on the earliest date since the 2013-14 season, when they also played game #41 on January 2 in Colorado. They are already the 29th team in franchise history to reach 48 or more points through 41 games; the other 28 teams have all made the playoffs.

The Flyers have outscored their opponents 127-118 on the season. They are outscoring their opponents 53-37 in the third period of games, but have been outscored in the first period 44-35. They have been outscored 10-3 in the first period of games on this road trip.

Jake Voracek has reeled off three consecutive two-assist games, making him the first Flyer to have three straight multi-assist games since Sean Couturier did it from February 16-19 of last season. Per NHL Stats & Information, he’ll try to become the first Flyer to do it in four straight since Peter Forsberg did it from Oct. 30 – Nov. 8, 2005.

Voracek has at least a point in seven out of his last eight games, posting two goals and nine assists for 11 points in that span. Voracek needs 12 more to surpass Mark Recchi for fifth place in franchise history, at which point he’ll trail only Bob Clarke, Claude Giroux, Brian Propp and Bill Barber. Voracek is 13 games away from 900 for his NHL career. He has four goals and 16 assists for 20 points in his last 19 games.

Claude Giroux enters the game on a five-game point streak, with two goals and four assists for six points in the span. Giroux is at 61.4 percent on the year (446 for 727) and Couturier is at 59.1 percent (298 for 504).

Giroux and Sean Couturier are ranked first and second in the NHL, respectively, in faceoff percentage among the 81 players who have taken at least 400 faceoffs this year. Giroux is 67.6 percent on faceoffs in shorthanded situations this year – among that 81 person group, he leads the league by 13 percentage points over the next closest skater. He’s also 68.3 percent on defensive zone draws, which leads the league in that category.

Travis Konecny was named to the Metropolitan Division All-Star team on Monday. It will be Konecny’s first All-Star appearance. Konecny comes into tonight’s game as the team’s leading scorer with 12 goals and 24 assists for 36 points in 37 games played. He’s two assists, 12 goals and 13 points away from his career highs of 24 goals and 25 assists for 49 points set through all 82 games last year.

Ivan Provorov approaches the halfway point of the season with nine goals and 15 assists for 24 points, which puts him well within range of his career highs of 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points set two seasons ago. Provorov set a new career high in power play goals already when he scored his sixth of the season on Saturday in San Jose in his 38th game of the season.

Provorov has not missed a game in his NHL career and tonight, along with Claude Giroux, will play his 288th consecutive game. They are tied for third place in franchise history in terms of the longest Flyers consecutive game streaks.
