Meet Library Trustee Bernadette Koop

Bernadette (Bonnie) Koop has been a Library Trustee since 2007. She has lived in Haverstraw for most of her life. Currently residing in Garnerville, Bonnie graduated from Haverstraw-Stony Point High School, and was an elementary school teacher for 33 years in the Haverstraw-Stony Point Central School District. Her father was in the Army, and because of the family’s moves with the military, Bonnie has a travel bug with a suitcase always ready for another adventure. She often combines travelling with painting, attending conventions throughout the U.S. to take classes in many styles and media. She does decorative painting, which can be folksy or fine, on a canvas or an article of clothing, on a piece of wood, or on anything handy. Bonnie belongs to local chapters of the Society of Decorative Painters, Orange Blossoms Decorative Artists, and Hudson Valley Tole and Decorative Painters. Volunteering is another part of her life, Bonnie spends time with Helping Hands of Rockland, an interfaith agency which services the homeless in Rockland. Another priority for Bonnie is reading, she is often found with a book in hand, fiction or non-fiction, it doesn’t matter!
