Quilted Sham Created especially for Pfaff

A new twist on an old favorite, the becomes a colorful patchwork pillow sham. Use leftover fabrics or start with a theme and create the perfect pillow sham for your bedroom. Rick Rack adds a bit of pizzazz as a final embellishment.

SUPPLIES YOU”LL NEED 1 1/2 yards of fabric for pillow sham back and front lining 1/2 yard of fabric for the center front of pillow sham 1/4 yard each of border fabrics 3 yards each of white and black Rick Rack 1 yard of fusible batting 1/4” Quilt Foot Water- or air-soluble marking pen FABRIC CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS: Cut the pillow sham front according to the diagram shown here. All measurements indicated are the finished size. Be sure to add 1/4” seam allowance to all sides of each pattern piece.

Draw a horizontal line in the center of the center front block. For the front lining, cut a 21 1/2” x 27 1/2" piece of fabric. For the pillow sham back, cut two 21 1/2" x 22" pieces of fabric.

LET'S GET STARTED: 1. Using the diagram as your guide, piece together the sham front using the 1/4” Quilt Foot and a 1/4” seam allowance. 2. Draw a line in the center of each border band for the Rick Rack placement. 3. Fuse the batting to the wrong side of the pillow sham front. 4. Using a straight stitch and engaging the IDT system, stitch along the marked line in the center block through all layers. Attach the Edge Guide/Quilting Guide and continue quilting the center block spacing the stitching lines 2 1/2” from the center line. You will stitch five lines.

5. Set your machine to a feather stitch (stitch #16 on the Pfaff creative 2140) and stitch along each seamline of the border fabric.

6. Select a straight stitch and stitch the Rick Rack in place along the marks using white Rick Rack on top and along one side and black Rick Rack on the remaining side and bottom. 7. Place the front lining and sham front, wrong sides together. Baste along the outer edges. 8. Turn under and press a 1" double-fold hem on one short edge of each sham back piece. Stitch the hems in place close to the inner fold. 9. On your flat work surface, overlap the back pieces creating a 27 1/2” width. Baste the edge together. 10. Pin the sham front and back pieces, right sides together, keeping the raw edges even. Stitch along the outside edge using a 1/4” seam allowance. Turn the sham right side out and press. Enjoy!
