Regatta Welfare The Rowing Club Welfare Officer is: Lin Beech Throughout the regatta she can be contacted via Race Control, or by phone on: 07891 045197 WELFARE STATEMENT AND PLAN In accordance with the British Rowing Safeguarding and Protecting Children Guidance and Guidelines for Rowing Competitions (SPCG11) WELFARE STATEMENT The Organising Committee of the Bewdley Regatta believes that the welfare and wellbeing of all children and vulnerable adults is paramount. All children and vulnerable adults, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion or ability, have equal rights to safety and protection. All suspicions, concerns and allegations of harm will be taken seriously, and responded to swiftly and appropriately. WELFARE PLAN The Welfare Officer for the event will be Lin Beech 07891 045197 supported by Gerry Glenister 07896 942202 IMPORTANT INFORMATION REQUIRED FROM COMPETING JUNIOR CREWS: In order to effect best management of matters arising in relation to child athletes, all clubs entering junior athletes will be required to provide the name and mobile telephone number of at least one club representative assuming responsibility for these children. Please complete the form found on the Bewdley RC website and email to [email protected] prior to the regatta. Junior Crews will not be able to register without this information. These details will not be used for any other purpose. All participating clubs are required to advise the Organising Committee if parents/carers of any participating junior athletes have not consented to images of their child being used in publicity material issued by Bewdley Rowing Club. PROCEDURE FOR REPORTING A CONCERN If you are concerned about possible abuse or bad practice record the facts and report to Club Welfare Officer. Club Welfare Officer will record the facts and report to the BR Lead Safeguarding Officer. If there is an immediate danger the CWO will report to external agencies including the Local Police Child Protection Team, NSPCC and British Rowing. Concerns will be recorded in writing within 24 hours. AWARENESS The Welfare Statement and Plan will be made known to all event volunteers at the pre-event briefing. A clear notice regarding contacting the Welfare Co-ordinator will be available from the registration desk as well as notice boards located in the gym and club house. All personnel dealing with minors in rowing should be aware of the British Rowing policy on Safeguarding and Protecting Children - see http://www.britishrowing.org/publication/child-protection-policy All officials should be aware of dealing with minors appropriately using the Row Safe document. See leaflet http://www.britishrowing.org/publication/ row-safe-leaflet MEDICAL PROVISION Medical provision will be provided by 365 Medical Services and all the medical staff will be sent the Welfare Statement and Plan, and will be given the contact details of the Welfare Coordinator. In an emergency, Race Control/Safety Adviser/Welfare Co-ordinator may contact the emergency services using 999. Contact details of emergency services, out-of-hours doctor, minor injuries unit and local pharmacies can be found on notice boards located in the club house and the gym. APPROPRIATE LEVEL OF SECURITY FOR VISITING JUNIOR CREWS Visiting crews will make their own arrangements for changing facilities. Visiting crews are responsible for the welfare and safety of their young or vulnerable adult coxes. Volunteers and officials with the visiting crews and the hosting clubs should be vigilant for anything suspicious, for example: someone unknown to the crews hanging around or tampering with equipment; people taking pictures near the changing facilities. Visiting junior crews staying overnight are advised to camp at Hopley’s Camping and Caravan site. Details can be found on the Bewdley RC website. Bewdley Rowing Club will be hosting a party on the Saturday evening. No alcohol will be served to under 18’s (Challenge 21 posters will be located in the club house). No alcohol is to be bought by proxy for juniors. It is the responsibility of visiting clubs to supervise their own juniors. Any proxy buying for juniors will result in all concerned being asked to leave. MISSING PERSONS If a person has been missing for more than thirty minutes, contact Race Control, the Welfare Officer or the Safety Adviser. Contact can be made through any official. PHOTOGRAPHY All participating clubs are required to advise the Organising Committee if parents/carers of any participating junior athletes have not consented to images of their child being used in publicity material issued by Bewdley Rowing Club. The Official will then deal with the matter in accordance with the agreed Event Child Welfare Plan. Regatta Supporters All the members of Bewdley Rowing Club would like to extend their sincere thanks to all the people who have helped with this event, most notably: Wyre Forest District Council and The Environment Agency for their assistance DRP Group for providing the PA system and all our sponsors and neighbours 4 Load Street Bewdley DY12 2AF sales and lettings estates.co.uk Notes for Competitors The regatta is run under British Rowing Rules and the Row Safe guide All crews must register no later than 1 hour before their race is due, failing to do so risks disqualification. All crews should have their British Rowing Race Licence cards for inspection if required. Crews will not be called forward, and should make their own way to the start. Crews must be at boat pairing with their opposition at least 30 minutes before the published start time, or they risk disqualiffication. The lowest numbered crew in each race will take the Town Side station. No practising is allowed on the course. Winning finalists should report to Registration to provide their British Rowing Licence cards for inspection as soon as possible. Please remove all blades that are not in use from the Landing Stage. The circulation pattern is overleaf, please make sure you have studied this. Accident and Emergency Procedures Members of 365 Medical Services are on duty at the main gate for the duration of the racing. They will provide first aid and accident and emergency cover. Members of BRC safety crew are on duty each day and will be on the water for the duration of the racing. Both crews can be contacted at the finish. River safety is covered by BRC safety crew and their launches are located opposite the Gas Works and near the Start. Radio Communications are located at each Umpire Position along the course and each position is able to communicate with Race Control located at the finish. In the event of an accident on the river, racing must be stopped immediately, the safety boats advised of the location and the first aid cover advised by Race Control. The communications channel should only be used by Officials dealing with the emergency during the emergency period. When the emergency has been dealt with, The Co-ordinating Umpire will advise all points along the course that the course is clear and racing may resume. Will all Umpires please note that a throw line is located at each Umpire Position. Will all competitors note that river safety and first aid are not available outside the hours of racing and therefore practising on the river is strictly at their own risk.
