HEAVY FAB JEEP JK BUILD!

3 Attachment(s) Hi everyone. I had started to show my build off in another Jeep forum and figured I wanted to make sure that the entire Jeep JK community could share.

A lot of hours of hard work, sweat and love are going into the build and it will be going to the SEMA show in Las Vegas this Nov. Booth #36175

I hope that everyone finds this build as fun and exciting as I do. I lived with the Jeep for almost a year (this Nov) and I LOVE it. I cannot ever see myself not owning this ride. So...here it goes...

Where it began.

2011 Jeep JK Sahara Unlimited. Upgraded Drivetrain, Chrome package, AC. Towing package.

CUSTOM DOORS

3 Attachment(s) It wants to fly!

The doors are still fully removeable. :smokin:

Suffolk JK 10-16-2011 07:30 PM

Are you serious? Lambo style opening doors? :shaking:

Goodysgotacuda 10-16-2011 07:30 PM oh my..

09rubicon 10-16-2011 07:32 PM

Lambo doors are so overdone even Lambos dont use them anymore! That said, very creative way to attach them! Do you have to pull the whole pillar support to remove them or are the still hinge mounted?

They are hinge mounted.

Not Lambo doors....you cannot buy these doors. You have to make them yourself.

The Idea

In May of 1998 Mercedes Benz joined Corp. in what was termed at the time ― a merger of equals‖. Very rapidly it became apparent that Mercedes had taken over Chrysler to form a new company, Daimler Chrysler Corp. This acquisition gave Mercedes Benz full control of the iconic American JEEP. Mercedes Benz has its own history in 4x4 off-road vehicles; for example, the Gelandewagen, is a... mainstay of European off-road vehicles and it also happens to be the most luxurious SUV that money can buy at around $125K retail. The Mercedez Gelandewagen or , ―G wagen‖, as it is affectionately known, has also become an icon of class and off-road prowess. Although it never happened back then (when Mercedes Benz took over Chrysler) we wondered what would a JEEP Gelandewagen or J.Wägen look like? This project is the manifestation of that concept.

The LOVE CHILD of the iconic American Jeep and The iconic German SUV.

The G-Wagen is way over-rated. I have personally had the chance to wheel one. If you think about it, locked front and rear and a good TCS. Same as the Rubicon. The G-wagens only saving grace is its low end torque. Sadly that is killed by its poor break-over and aproach angles (departure angle is pretty good). That and the fact that to turn one into a truly capable vehicle cost 10 times more than a Jeep. As a light duty expedition vehicle it is great, but I would never say it is a competent off-road vehicle, more two-track and pissy weather vehicle.

I also lived in Europe for 6 years (Germany at that), and they are not big fans of them. The serious off-roaders there buy or Rovers.

Custom Tailgate and Tire Carrier

2 Attachment(s) OK...so more fab happening on the build. We had to attach the hinges to the inner structure of tailgate in order to make the flip-down tailgate

J.Wagen 10-16-2011 08:03 PM

1 Attachment(s) and then we utilzed the original tailgate swingout hinges for the tire carrier. It's definitely robust! Ready to hold my Toyo M/T Tires and LEXANI wheels!

Door handle Mods

4 Attachment(s) We wanted to change the door handles on the Jeep to the "G-Wagen styled" which is a lower profile door handle. We also wanted the J.Wagen handles to be in line with the body lines of the Jeep. This required us to lower the handles on each side 1 3/8" from the stock position. We also had to chop the inside mechanism to account for the drop! Extra pics on Facebook. If you dig the build please "like" it.

J.Wagen 10-16-2011 08:15 PM

Rear Latch System

4 Attachment(s) Latch system is .... Stout and works smoothly. For a video of it in operation check the facebook page! I'm not yet familar if I can posts video here.

J.Wagen 10-16-2011 08:17 PM

Please keep in mind that everything still lacks final detail and finish....some of these pics are older and the items are already in primer stages. Almost show time!

I want the Jeep to fully unveli at the show so I will save some details.:)

J.Wagen 10-16-2011 08:31 PM

Custom side Front Quarter vents cut in.

We fabed the air vents to allow more air to move through the engine.

Last pic....already in primer...heading to paint

venom 10-16-2011 08:33 PM

Dunno what kind of reaction you're expecting on here but I dont think you're gonna get it. kudos on chopping and fabbing but if you really want a g-wagen - get one, raping a jeep into a wanna be really doesnt seem like a good use of resources.

BTW, theres been a kit to do the fold down tailgate for a couple of years now. and as for the doors... http://www.eshaun.com/pics/avatars/L...Played-Out.jpg

Goodysgotacuda 10-16-2011 08:43 PM

I'd put 24s on it. G wagen? Why? I don't think there is anything about one I aspire to have on my Jeep. You'll keep correcting people saying they aren't Lambo doors because of the hinge...it makes no difference! They're freakin Lambo doors according to JKO. Therefore it's considered fact. I don't see the point in the hinge like that, besides it being a bitch to get in and out of.

Different, but so far I dont like it... well I do like your idea to re use the tailgate hinges for the tire swing away.
