Portfolio TRIL OGY Olympic Games TRIL OGY Project Omega (Swatch Group) has been an Olympic sponsor as well as the official timekeeper since the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. For the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games Omega sought to construct a showpiece pavilion that would provide a platform to display the many world class timepieces produced by the Swatch Group as well as welcome guests from the global audience in attendance. The construction team was responsible for conceptual design development, interface with local government ministries and all permits / approvals therein, design management and overall project execution on the Olympic Park. The structure was composed of lightweight aluminium profiles and a glass facade with a surface area of 17,000 square feet. The interior showcased the products from Omega and the Swatch Group, provided a reception for press conferences / private events, a VIP area and had a total area of 2500 sq./ft. Many of the venues required temporary structures and overlay solutions that would serve the purpose of the Olympic Games without leaving “white elephants” that would not benefit the community in the medium/long term. The majority of the seating and structures was temporary in nature in both the city venues and mountain venues. This involved aggressively fast-tracking the design, fabrication and construction to ensure that the immovable completion date could be met. Communication and coordination were particular challenges as project team members were spread between San Francisco, Cincinnati, New York, London, Zurich, Moscow and Sochi. With enormous transport challenges we structured and depended on a diversified supply chain spread across Europe, Western and Central Asia. The pavilion was delivered on budget and ahead of schedule allowing P&G to take possession earlier than planned and have additional preparation for their Games time activation. The P&G Family Home achieved unanimous acclaim and provided the backdrop to a hugely successful marketing campaign. Serie Architects’ innovative design used the river water to provide a sustainable source of cooling for the building before returning the filtered water to the river via an eye-catching ‘water curtain’ feature. The structure had a total floor space of 800m2. The two-storey superstructure is built of steel box beams and sustainable materials were employed for the interior fit out. Scope • Project acquisition, client of work: negotiations and procurement of the overall project • Commercial, legal and contractual structuring of the project execution • SCM of local suppliers and commercial conditions therein. 2012 London Summer Olympic Games - BMW Pavilion TRIL OGY Challenges / Special Remarks: Serie Architects’ innovative design uses river water to provide a sustainable source of cooling for the building before returning this filtered water to the river via an eye-catching ‘water curtain’ feature. It was the only venue on the water making for difficult construction conditions and stringent Health & Safety regulations. It required floating piling rigs for the piles to be driven into the river bed as well as for the tower crane to be delivered by river barge due to size constraints on the Olympic Park. The roof of the pavilion constituted a large pool of water that wrapped around the pods that housed the vehicles on display. Prototypes of BMW’s electric cars were presented in enclosed glass structures. All nine pods had different sizes and thus had to be sized bespoke with individual edge sides in equal proportion. 2012 London Summer Olympic Games - BMW Pavilion TRIL OGY VIP Lounge A spacious area was reserved for VIP guests of BMW. The BMW Group Lounge had a separate entrance and catering area. The lounge was filled with natural light and fitted out with bespoke timber paneling and wooden flooring. London 2012 Showcase Sponsor Pavilion - BMW TRIL OGY Project The Coca-Cola Beatbox was designed by Asif Khan and Pernilla Ohrstedt for the London 2012 Olympic Games. It was an experimental fusion of architecture, sport, music and technology that created a stunning multi- sensory experience. The visionary pavilion was inspired by Coca- Cola’s global campaign for London 2012 – Move to the BeatTM – that connected young people to the Games by bringing together their passions for music and sport. Responsible for the project acquisition, schematic design development, local market procurement, SCM and project execution on the Olympic Park. It took inspiration from Coca-Cola’s global platform for London 2012 Move to the Beat– a campaign which brought teens closer to the Olympics by fusing sport with their enduring passion for music. The creative concept enabled people to ‘play’ the Pavilion through interacting with sounds embedded within the architecture itself. Visitors created their own beat for London 2012 by remixing sounds of Olympic sports captured for an anthem created for Coca-Cola by Grammy award-winning producer, Mark Ronson. Integrated within the 200 cushions was groundbreaking audio, lighting and responsive sensor technology, which uploaded rhythmical sport sounds into the structure of the Coca- Cola Beatbox. Recordings, included athletes’ heartbeats, shoes squeaking, and arrows hitting a target were triggered and remixed by the gestures and movements of the 200,000 visitors during Games time as they made the 200m journey
