TALK up TAIHAPE Taihape Community Development Trust December 2019 TALK UP TAIHAPE Taihape Community Development Trust December 2019 What a great year to be in Taihape The Taihape Community Development Trust works closely with community-led events and projects to create a more vibrant Taihape. Our town has a big heart and the Trust contributed to the fun and festivities with Gumboot Day, our amazing 125 Taihape Celebrations (including our annual Spring Fling), and of course, our annual Christmas Parade and Christmas in the Park. We supported new events including Animal Mask Making and a charity climb up Mount Stewart. Our youth were given expert training in project delivery as part of the inaugural Young Leaders Workshop. Work continues to provide opportunities for future leaders to learn and grow. Fund raising is a big part of what makes this town and events successful. Taihape’s businesses give much to the community. Just look at how many have Christmas messages in our special colour edition of the newsletter. If you are in business, part of a community group or just one of the many wonderful residents of Taihape, it is you who make ideas real with donations, sponsorships and generosity like that raffle ticket you just purchased. Thank you to our traders, community groups and YOU. Merry Christmas one and all! Taihape Community Development Trust E [email protected] P 06 388 1307 On behalf of the Trustees of The Taihape Community Development Trust we would like to thank the business community in Taihape, our event volunteers and helpers who have made 2019 such a good year. We have seen our new coordinators welcomed by the community and they have hit the ground running. Our events and projects portfolio will grow in 2020, due to the continued support of the vibrant community that is Taihape. May you all have a safe and happy holiday.” Katene Peretini, Chair, Taihape Community Development Trust “It has been another great year for Taihape, one full of memorable occasions and I have enjoyed being a part of your community’s activities. Taihape has a vibrant future and like you, I am eager to see what the new year brings. On behalf of the councillors and staff at the Rangitikei District Council I would like to wish everyone in Taihape a safe and Happy Christmas.” Andy Watson, Mayor, Rangitikei District Council “The Taihape Community Board for the next three years is Ann Abernethy (Chair), Michelle Fannin (Deputy Chair), Emma Abernethy, Gail Larsen, and new Rangitikei District Councillors Gill Duncan and Tracey Hiroa together with returning Councillor Angus Gordon. There are some big issues to be discussed and decided upon and it is the role of a Community Board to represent and act as an advocate for the interests of its community. Nationally, there is a perception that with population increase comes growth only in cities and towns and the demise of smaller rural communities. Be assured that the Taihape Community Board will be working hard to ensure that our community remains a great place to live. Best wishes for the festive season and the new year ahead.” Ann Abernethy, Chair, Taihape Community Board Taihape Community Development Trust E [email protected] P 06 388 1307 TAIHAPE SUMMER EVENTS CALENDER DECEMBER JANUARY 14/15 Taihape Dressage 6 TCDT office reopens Memorial Park 20 Wellington Anniversary Day 25 A&P Show Memorial Park 15 Taihape Dance Academy Willy Wonka’s Candyland 22 Community Christmas Carols IF you would like your event listed in St. David’s Huia Street Talk Up Taihape, email details to 23 TCDT office closed [email protected] 25 Christmas Lunch, Taihape or call 06 388 1307 Rugby Clubrooms TAIHAPE CHRISTMAS LUNCH VOLUNTEERS NEEDED 24 December; Volunteers needed to assist with food preparation and decorating the clubrooms 25 December; Volunteers needed to cook, serve & clean up CONTACT Michelle [email protected] or 06 388 1307 Please consider an hour or two to help! Job Information Pack Position Summary Business Name: Papanui Estate: Papanui & Ferndale Stations – Turakina Valley Finishing farm - Feilding Breeding and Finishing block - Ohingaiti Property Summary: Papanui & Ferndale Stations are family owned large scale hill country stations located at the top end of the Turakina Valley. The Stations run a traditional sheep breeding operation with trade steers. These two stations are supported by two finishing blocks, one in Fielding and the other in Ohingaiti. Position Title: General Hand Position Overview: This General Farm Hand role will offer a very broad range of tasks ensuring no two days at work are the same. There will be some flexibility with tasks as they will be determined by your skill-set. There is a variety of work from digger and bulldozer operating, through to fencing, welding, carpentry and some stock work. The owners are happy for you to have a couple of working dogs but they are not a necessity in this role. Ideally, our clients are looking for a practical minded person with a can-do attitude who enjoys problem solving. You will need to have a reasonable level of competency with fencing as the role will involve R&M fencing and depending on your skill level some new fencing may be required. You will be based on Papanui Station, but will be required to work on the other properties within this farming business as required. You will be reporting to the Station Owner and once you become familiar with the farming operation the expectation is that you will be able to efficiently manage your own time in order to complete all day-to-day tasks.
